    Something more traditional...

I don't believe that it's much gangsta either and frankly I don't care.

But there's something that puzzles me since like forever since I'm only casual rap listener.

What is rap and what is hip-hop? It's not a troll job, but a serious question.

Rapping is a lyrical style that is part of but not exclusive to Hip Hop. Rap can also be found in Electro, Gangsta Rap, Hyphe, Krunk et-al (even New Wave). Heck, Vincent Price even rapped a verse in a dang Michael Jackson song (Thriller).

"Hip Hop" itself actually comprises of several different street arts (The Elements).

Here's a great page from some of the most important Hip Hop pioneers themselves:

Brother, it is my pleasure to share some Afrika Bambaataa and Sugar Hill Gang with new ears!

The contribution those artists made to modern music can not be overstated. Everything that is big on the charts today springs from them, their contemporaries and most especially their influences (I'm looking at you, Kraftwerk and Lee Scratch Perry).

Oh my, my friend worked with Lee Scratch. She's used to bands all over the world and their caprices, she dealt with Nazis, True norsk blakkk metl idiots (those few that actually exist behind makeup, Glenn Danzig, with relative ease...

... but she NEVER wants to see Lee Scratch Perry or Korn again!

    Off topic again, tee-hee :-)
