Someone from my academy just had his first MMA amateur fight at age 49 and he did well. He ended up losing because the ref made an awful stoppage but he didn't care, he had alot of fun and we all hung out and had a couple of beers after the fight. He also cannot wait to fight again and I'm looking forward to seeing it!

A lot can also depend on what oldsters did in previous years. If somebody has has spent decades picking up habits from other activities--for example, some of the TMAs that are out there--then he might have hell of a lot of response-deprogramming to do (along with many other changes), before he could even begin to learn effectiveness in MMA. If that's the case, the road to that first MMA match might be that much longer...a consideration, since the clock is ticking a bit more loudly for these guys.
