From the Eskrima Digest (vol 9 #311 and #313)...checked out website in English--no mention of this 20 hours + 500 euros = black belt offer. Can't read German, so can't vouch for truth of claim. Still, thought I'd pass along as this guy seemed in earnest...

I am new to eskrima and to this list, and I have a question.

I am a Judoka, and I want to open my school in Rostock in the former east of
Germany. I also want to offer something with sticks or sword. I got a offer to
become a Eskrima teacher. I must pay about 500 Euro and I get 20 hours lesson,
my equipment, and a certificate that allows me to be a Eskrima teacher and
have my own school. The certificate is also by the only organisation
    recognized by Phillipines government.

Since I am new to Eskrima, please help me. Is this a fair offer?
Can I also teach Eskrima to children and from what age?

    Many thanks,

I want to apologize for asking such stupid question. I am new to eskrima, I
did not know it is a fighting system with long history and respected masters.
I believed it will be just some techniks, like karateka also do some bo.

I hope I have not insulted you or your art. I feel ashamed. I have bought a
Eskrima book and will start reading and stop asking stupid questions. I would
never let a Judoka teach after 20 hours, or 200.

I found the offer in the Internet (, German part).
The man who sent me the offer is Mr. Mayr from Bielefeld. He is from Doce
Pares Europa and Mr. Frans Stroeven will be teacher. He said I will become
Doce Pares Eskrima Basic instructor. The Diplom will also be from Gro▀meister
Dionisio Ca˝ete and will be recognized world wide by Doce Pares Eskrima. Mayr
writes the only organisation recognized by Phillipines government is Doce
    Pares Klub.

I send copies of the offer I got to the German friends who answered to my
question, so maybe they can say more, my english is not good. And thank you
    for me saving my money.

    May I apologize again.

Lol, anybody who promises that you can become a good teacher by paying so much money then they are just wanting your money. There is a good base for latosa escrima in Germany. Look them up. Doce Pares Escrima is an interesting approach based in Manila. From my history of escrima it isn't so much a style as a training technique. Most systems of escrima have a doce pares training method. I'll talk to my uncles and get back to you (yes I'm 1/2 Phillipino)
