See I don't agree that boxing has the best strike. I agree that boxing has the best strike strategy. Not exactly the same.

I take the jab and believe it or not, the head movement from boxing. That's about it.

I love using the jab as a defensive tool.

I incorporate boxing's total upper body defense system when I do what little karate I still do. The head movement and tight guard pretty much makes up for the wide blocks and parries they use. As for kicks to the body, I just raise my knee for most linear kicks or jam the roundhouse with my elbow. Elbow > instep. Everytime.

Where as I'm not a big fan of that because I feel it is too dependent on boxing glloves (the tight guard that is)

I agree, it's completely different in full contact (I wore one of those MMA gloves once and I was like, "****, I ain't blocking no head kicks with these).

But it works quite well for karate and the guard in itself is decent against the average fighter.

Hooks, hooks, hooks. My KF style has em but the boxing hook is tighter and more powerful.

The street argument is retarded. BJJ is so much overkill for the street that its ridiculous. Unless you're the idiot that picks a fight with the high school wrestling team, barring knife or gun play, the opponent shouldn't make it past double leg + ground and pound - Osiris

I've always been a fan of the Kyokoshin guard with the open palms.

I incorporate the swollen, bent nose, and missing chunks of ear (not strictly technigues, I know). Hope that's useful.
