there is a difference between an uncoordinated person punching at your head and an uncoordinated person swinging a rattan stick at your head

True. If you're uncoordinated, and you are attacking someone with a stick, there is a very real chance that you're gonna have the stick taken from you and get your ass beat by it.

Yeah, sticks move about 5 times faster... That's why Philipino styles start with weapons. Got bruises?

we were doing the inside counter to strike one (both VERY VERY new to escrima)...and i was attacking....while my partner was going through the counter he somehow hit me in the head...i play it over and over in my mind...i can't figure out how his stick got me.

my knuckles get it, but that's par for the course

ah yes, the 'accidental' hit to the elbow always works in those situations and ensures they cant go as fast afterwards
i remember my first few months when i managed to stab myself in the arm , still figuring that one out...

That's nothing, I managed to perform an accidental nerve point strike on myself at one class ;)...

My own stick bounced from the other guy's block and hit me in the nerve in the elbow... I couldn't do anything with the hand for like 5 mins.

My friend and i were fighting with double sticks at class and i accidentaly hit one of my friend's stick; the thing flied like a death strike into our MASTER's back of the Head.
A silence was made while we think of running or staying. But fortunatly our master took it with amusment and laught.
    Damm that was close...
