A beginner looking for a dojo

Alright, before I get lit up, if this has been discussed before, I apologize - I used the search feature and didn't find anything.

I'm a complete newbie. I'm 26, wrestled in high school, looking for a mma-type school. What is some advice you might have for someone like me? I live in Saint Louis, and I've checked out all the local listings, many of which are tae kwan do, kung fu, or karate. I don't think there's anything wrong with these, but I want something a little more practical and effective, with a large grappling component. What kind of things should I be looking for when I go to check these places out? I also read on here that a lot of mma guys just do bjj and train elsewhere in something like muay thai to develop their striking skills. What do you think? I'm really serious about this and I want to make sure I put myself in the best school possible. And what would be even better - anybody with any firsthand experience, positive or negative, in the STL area would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks.

Go to hell ... but on the way there ... stop and read the different section descriptions.

Thank you and have a wonderfull holiday

Okay, dickhead. And in what section might I find what I'm looking for, since everything is so clearly laid out here? Oh, and to hell with you, as well.

Jager, this is the Internet. Don't take things so seriously!

I live in Columbia, MO and I know we have had competitors come from St. Louis, so there must be something going on there. Did you do an internet search? Make sure you perform several searches, if MMA doesn't come up with anything grappling might. I found one or two hits but you will have to check them out for yourself. How far are you willing to drive? Increase your search radius if you have to. My gym is awesome but it is two hours away from you, probably more than you want to drive.

Also, don't give up if you can't find exactly what you are looking for. I know you want to do grappling and muay thai, but if there is nothing available find a boxing gym and start on that. Anyway, I am just saying not to get so focused on one exact thing that you miss other opportunities.

You guys are such fucking computer dorks. You want people to be good at something, but you can't tolerate them being beginners. I would have liked to have seen how brilliant you all were when you first started. Fucking computer dorks. You can all blow me. And if you want, you can pay for that, fucking homos.
