Thomas Gifford v Mike Davis. **** me, what was Gifford's Coach and Father thinking??!! Thomas Gifford showed incredible fortitude and endurance in facing down a punishing puncher showing a much better skillset. I thought the Ref was within his rights to stop it in the closing seconds of R1. The fact that poor Gifford was allowed out to experience a sustained beating without respite was disgraceful. When the poor bloke went back to his corner, the so-called Coach asked him how he felt. Young Gifford replied honestly - and to his credit - "Horrible". The fucking lunatic of a coach ignored his own responsibility to protect his fighter from his own courage. The old man, sorry, Father, said naught. Look, if you want to live vicariously through your son/fighter, then get in there yourself and learn the error of your ways. I do not exclude the Ref, who only issued a soft warning.

Thomas Gifford suffered an awful KO and it should not have been allowed to happen. Mr Davis should feel ashamed of his own exultant behaviour. It was wholly inappropriate, clearly he's never seen a fighter call time and upbraid the Ref for not adequately recognising when the fighter needs protection. You saw it recently when Gathije halted Cerrone. You may have seen it when Ali would summon in the Ref when he knew his opponent was spent and no longer presenting a viable challenge.

Thomas Gifford should immediately Retire. He did tremendously well and showed fantastic courage. He has nothing to prove to anyone and should now think of his Health and enjoy his life. If he wants to continue in UFC, then let him train to be a Ref, Cutman, Coach but he should not be allowed to step in again as a competitor. It would not be safe for him.

Swanson v Gracie was a great contest. Odd that 2 BJJ BBs spend so much time on their feet and punching. Even so, not a criticism, a great match.
