Ironically, what I am expecting, and the reason that I bring it up, is that when we look at things like video compression and streaming technology, as well as consumer adoption of same, it was the huge investment in that area by the Adult Entertainment industry that accelerated the technology development and adoption that ultimately paved the way for other shifts such as Youtube and then Netflix, etc.

So, as I stated, the sex robots will ultimately raise the water in a material way and accelerate the development of things like prosthetic limbs, and other useful humanoid robotic technologies.

The whole area of useful robotics, including consumer robotics, is fascinating, and given the AI advancements, this stuff is coming down the pike quickly - and I am talking about outside of adult entertainment use cases - but there is no way adult entertainment use cases are not going to be one of the big money use cases, and one of the major sources of investment into things that also end benefiting other use cases.
    I agree. Sex sells.

Although, the whole BetaMax v. VHS was-a-sex-thing is still hotly debated, for which I've seen convincing arguments from both sides.

The larger point is it was the Lobbying dollars of the Adult Entertainment Industry in conjunction with the Lobbying face of PBS and Fred Rogers, which helped keep the Hollywood lobby from convincing Congress and SCOTUS that there was no use case for a VCR which did not involve pirated or pirating Hollywood content.

And which helped really drive consumer acceptance of streaming video, and provided investment funds to help improve video streaming technologies.

When it has come to video content, I think fair use and first right of sale have had a larger effect on how these things play out, at least until I stopped paying attention during the HDDVD/Bluray wars. That's probably worthy of its own thread, though, so I won't harp on it, right now.

A couple of real tech heroes, though, for the interested:

It hasn't yet shown up in my "recommended videos," list, but I suspect it will, at some point. I did make a reference to Boxing Helena, recently...
