Cooltown Surfie - restoring the balance

So, despite it being illegal since 1984 (according to Clubs Queensland) it is common practice in Australia for Clubs (Surf clubs, Bowls Clubs, Sports Clubs etc.) to enforce differing dress regulation on men and women who enter their premises.

Yesterday (thursday 12/4/18) the national broadcaster (ABC) ran a news story on the recent changes the Coolum Beach Surf Life Saving Club (Cooltown Surfie) made to its dress code to eliminate the discrimination.

Subsequent to the story being broken, Clubs Queensland have issued a newsletter which advises Clubs to amend any dress regulations which imposes different standards between men and women.

Despite my appreciation for Cooltown hitting the news in a somewhat positive fashion, I am a little amused that this has made national news. On the upside though, I won't have to wear those dingy "loan" shirts at the surfie because I forgot to change out of my singlet.

I have to ask. Were women wearing singlets required to wear a bra?

    Cause

If men don't it's the flip side of discrimination.

Please say no. Pictures say a thousand words.

Lol, no. And the Sunny Coast has a comparatively low bra usage rate when compared to the rest of Australia ;-)
