True, but "low percentage technique" is awfully specific vocabulary.

    It's not specific to Bullshido.net.

Definitely, but also certainly a very small subset of the culture of which Bullshido is a part.

Very true, most anyone training BJJ, or any combat sport these days, has run across the term.
I was up till like 5 this morning watching old episodes and think maybe I was projecting ... I haven't caught any in the older episodes yet.

    MST3K Season 2 Episode 2 "Sidehackers".

Tom Says: "Since they are showing us ESPN maybe they will play us some Kickboxing from the Philippines."

which is random as hell but shows an interest in Combat Sports.

    later same episode:
Joel: Well, you guys gotta understand, it's really hard to get a new sport going. It's hard to get the recognition that other sports enjoy. Can you name a few?
Tom Servo: Uh, kickboxing from the Philippines... uh, tape measure racing...
Crow T. Robot: And, uh, computations, and Australian rules football.
Joel: Right, and what do all these sports have in common that sidehacking does not?
Crow T. Robot: Uh, a rudimentary interest factor?
Tom Servo: A sense of fair play?
Crow T. Robot: A small measure of self-esteem?
I don't mean to sound bitter, cold, or cruel, but I am, so that's how it comes out.

I remember that one. Obscure sports being shown on second-tier ESPN channels was a running gag back then though, that's the most likely genesis for those gags.

"Very true, most anyone training BJJ, or any combat sport these days, has run across the term. "

But even given the popularity of these combat sports, there is still a tiny percentage of the population involved in them, and as I mentioned, the Hollywood crowd seems to associate martial arts exclusively with the pseudo - philosophical nonsense like Aikdo and Chun, or the theoretical based RBSD stuffs.

I found the term used on on Aikido forums more than a decade ago.

I really do wonder where it originated...I know it's part of MMA culture for a while, but honestly not sure if it was from a UFC commentator or something else.

This will be a fun term to etymologize.

Was it a term of endearment, or should I google up that photo of the wrought iron fence with the monogram E?

It was actually 2006, about the "SAS 5 second knockout..."
