    Hell yeah! Hell no!

Three charged and multiple Scientology facilities closed in Tennessee

Those of you familiar with Scientology and its activities probably know of NARCONON. Those of you unfamiliar with Scientology ... well that's sad. You should be better informed of the crazy bullshit which exists in your world and shares your oxygen.

Those of you who haven't heard of NARCONON but know of Scientology can probably guess that NARCONON is not going to be something rational, logical, healthy, nor unfunny (as long as you aren't actually dealing with it). So what is NARCONON? Scientology's pretty website states that:
Narconon was founded in 1966 based on the discoveries and writings of author, humanitarian and Scientology Founder L. Ron Hubbard. Today, Narconon constitutes a worldwide network that daily helps people recover from the devastation of drug addiction.Narconon drug rehabilitation methods, all drug-free, combine a precise regimen that eliminates drug residues from the body with procedures to alleviate the mental and physical anguish connected with drugs.

Narconon not only addresses the debilitating effects of drug abuse on both mind and body, but also resolves the reasons why a person turned to drugs in the first place. To date, the program has helped tens of thousands start a new life free from drugs.

But Narconon doesn’t stop there; it reaches out to inform young people and adults about drugs and drug abuse through its education and prevention program. To date Narconon drug education specialists have directly reached more than 16 million individuals.

True freedom for the individual cannot be attained in a world awash with substance abuse and drug addiction. That is why the Church of Scientology is fully committed to programs that effectively address this social issue.
So yeah. Narconon= International DARE+Private Rehab (Aliens+space planes+Tom Cruise+Religion)*crazy amounts of cash. What is the treatment program you ask?

    ...

The program has, from the beginning, been founded on basic principles observed by L. Ron Hubbard: that an individual is basically good, that he is responsible for his own condition, and that anyone can improve their condition if given a workable way to do so.

This workable means of kicking drug addiction started in the Arizona State Prison when William Benitez, an inmate serving a 15-year sentence on drug charges, discovered a book by L. Ron Hubbard: Scientology: The Fundamentals of Thought. Benitez realized it contained the tools to free himself from the drug abuse that had trapped him since the age of 13. He approached prison officials, requesting permission to set up a drug rehabilitation program inside the facility. His request was granted and on February 19, 1966, Benitez started a pilot program, enrolling 20 fellow inmates.

With the support of Mr. Hubbard, Benitez subsequently established a formal Narconon program in the prison. Upon his release, after voluntarily extending his prison stay to complete the implementation of the program, he moved to California and opened the first Narconon residential center. With the continued support of Mr. Hubbard and Scientologists, Narconon continued to expand, and today stands as the world’s preeminent drug rehabilitation program.

From its inception, the Narconon program promoted an approach to drug rehabilitation without the substitution of alternative drugs. The early program did not, however, deal directly with withdrawal.

By 1973, Mr. Hubbard’s further research to help addicts through the rigors of withdrawal safely and with minimal discomfort resulted in drug-free withdrawal procedures. Specific quantities of vitamins and mineral supplements accompanied by special techniques ease mental and physical stress. Today, the Narconon program includes a battery of procedures developed to effect swift and relatively painless withdrawal, followed by the Narconon New Life Detoxification.
So wow. That almost sounds reasonable ... except for the crazy bullshit that runs the length and breadth of the whole thing.

Why do I say this? Well it appears that a man called 911.
A man there who made the 911 call reportedly told officers that in addition to being held against his will, he was also being given unknown medications. He told officers that he was there for rehab and to “get cleansed through Scientology.” The man told officers that he’d been at the facilities for nine months.

    Wait wf?
Scientology facilities in Tennessee are closed down after police find patients are being held against their will.
The Cannon Courier reports three suspects have been charged and multiple rehabilitation facilities have been permanently closed in Cannon County after local police found patients being held against their will at psychiatric facilities owned and run by the Church of Scientology.
    ^source is Patheos article^

Which facility? Why it's NOT a Narconon facility! Scientology says this is not how they do things. I can't find the exact quote at the moment but they clearly do not want nor accept responsibility for it. I think they said something about subcontractors or something.

It seems to smell like more alleged kidnapping and human trafficking issues for Scientology followers.

As they say in Harry Potter and someplace they drink tea "Truth will out".

Tony Ortega has a blog with very similiar stories and situations involving Scientology.

Anyone at this point who trusts Scientology in any way kind of achieves Darwin award status for being a fucking retard. It's household general knowledge that Scientology = crazy batshit.

How is Scientology different from any other religion? Why is their belief any less or more ludicrous than the Abrahamic Religions?

The fact that it's a fairly blatant and obvious scam designed to gather wealth and influence from the weak and easily misled and has been so from its very beginning?

That is the exact same nonsense Bnet was saying. You can make the same claim about any and all religion(s) once you discount magic and miracles, unless you think earlier man was somehow more humanitarian and compassionate than modern man.

Why is the Scientologist belief system any less or more ludicrous than the Abrahamic Religions?

It's not all religions are full of ****. But currently Scientology has raised the bar somewhat on lunacy. Not necessarily because of their beliefs, but because of their actions which are well documented.

I just told you - scientology is a scam designed to sucker money out of believers from the very first minute it was conceptualised. It only became a religion later due to its tax exemption status.

It cannot be compared to any older, genuine religion. Apart from perhaps Mormonism.
