    What style and reputable school?

Hello all, I'm in need of some advice. I want to start a MA but I'm not sure where to start looking. I live in Clermont FL. I'm 45yo and in decent shape.I have a choice Karate, Taekwondo, Hapkido, bjj. I took over a year of kung fu but the school closed. We very rarely sparred as I was told it takes a special temperament. After my time I feel kind of reluctant to say I study in this art because I personally do not feel an more proficient now than when I started even though I reached a rank of orange. I feel like I got a raw deal. My instructor told me the best thing to continue with is a near by systema class but none of the other styles. He didn't really elaborate.

Where I need the help is which style and are the schools reputable. What I'm looking for in a style is something practical for health and self defense. I'm not looking to be a one man army.I don't care so much about ranks, I'm more concerned with proficiency. If I were practicing and someone sees me I don't want to look like a hong kong phooey episode. I have tried to research different schools but I can't really find a solid answer as to if they really are Mcdojos or not. I found one BJJ (Gracie Barra JJ), hapkido (Hapkido Brothers), Judo (Central Florida Judo and JJ), Karate (South Lake Karate), and TKD (World Class TKD). Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Thank you

I agree with Judo or BJJ, the latter is probably easier at 45.

We have a couple of FL based BJJ BBs here, maybe they will chime in on the schools in question.

The Karate, HKD and TKD places you mentioned look McDojo-ish, the Judo place Google says has closed, Gracie Barra is a legit BJJ org.

What school, What Art, What Do I Do, and Which Panties to Wear are all topics which DO NOT belong in MABS.

I don't mean to sound bitter, cold, or cruel, but I am, so that's how it comes out.

Taekwondo. BJJ doesn't work in a fight.

I think what you're looking for is a good Wing Chun school. Make sure you ask the instructor about his lineage so you know you're getting the real Wing Chun, not some westernised BS.
