Don't forget, it was still accepted practice to duel to the death for dishonoring another citizen when the constitution was written . In 1790 you couldn't just act like a **** without the worry of a gentleman putting a sword or lead ball through your heart. So speech was free from government interference but you could in fact be killed for running your mouth like a little bitch.
Due early Presidents and Statesmen taking part in duels I imagine that's how they believed it should be.

Technically, I guess his category is "dumb white supremacist". He's actually been interviewed quite a lot by major news media. I've NEVER seen him advocate violence, though. He's basically one of those "Well wishing" morons who believe if everybody who is not Caucasian would kindly pack up and move out of the US, everyone would be better off.

But, he's not the kind of white supremacist that advocates violent action against minorities, burns black churches...as far as I know, he's a run of the mill racist. Something that clearly doesn't give anyone license to assault. There's no "your honor, he called me a _____" defense against assault and battery that I know of.

Remember that scary press conference they held right after Trump's win, where some of the guys in the audience started doing the Nazi salute? This is the guy who was speaking at the podium. And hate his speech all you want (I know I think it's deplorable...lol), but if I advocate violence against him, I'm no better.

It's still protected free speech (as in freedom). If you're OK with someone being assaulted for their speech, you're on the slippery slope towards advocating the violation of other civil liberties. In that sense you're no better than Trump or his followers advocating locking people up for their religious speech.

It's not 1790 anymore either. Shooting and beating each other for acting like cunts isn't acceptable in America in 2016. You have no moral or legal recourse whatsoever, under the Constitution, to deprive anyone of life or liberty, or teeth. Who cares that early Presidents and other dead people dueled about whatever? We've got 230+ years of laws since the Bill of Rights that make it clearly wrong to attack someone for speaking.

Violence begets violence. Yes, that includes violence against people doing nothing but talking to cameras.
I thought the point of that movie was that Nazis are shitty.

The point of the movie was the hate and violence you take part in often comes back to avenge itself on your loved ones, and you can be powerless to stop it.

For most of the movie, Ed Norton (your "Nazi") actually lives in regret for his hate crime, before finally learning that prison and being an ex-con wasn't remotely the worst of it all.

Belief in "White power" ends up being a tragic irony, in this story. Talk about powerless.

This is where society has went down hill and has become less civil.

I have plenty of moral recourse.

I disagree. If you traveled across the Great Plains circa 1790 you might get scalped or eaten. Travel south of the Mason-Dixon line without being white as the arctic snow, and you'd be put in chains and sent to a farm for the rest of your life, assuming you weren't just hanged on the spot for being a runaway.

I think America is FAR more civil in 2016.

Not under the US Constitution, you don't. In fact if you met Spencer on the street, the law literally gives you no rights other than to talk to him.

Richard Spencer (the guy getting punched, who happened to coin the term "alt right") is now seeing the Internet legions turn on him, in the form of video remixes and memes.

This is probably the natural reflex action to how Spencer and his peons hijacked the Web over the last couple years and flooded it with their racist, supremacist crap, goofy avatars, and money-making schemes.

While I still think punching him in the street is morally reprehensible, sometimes dissonance creates great art, and here we are: Welcome to the New Anti-Alt-Right Age of Artwork.

People will remember 2017 as the year Pepe the Frog and was defeated by Jay Z. H to the O-V.

God I hate to put Godwin's law into effect here, but since we are talking about Nazis, I guess it is somewhat OK to talk about the first one... Hitler. Honestly, I wish somebody had curb stomped his ass American History X style when he was still just a young punk making angry speeches to reporters. How many millions of people would still be alive today if someone had?

I can tolerate a lot of stupid. Stupid that has proven genocidal though is one I can't stomach. For me Nazism and Communism(as a distinct and separate entity from socialism) are simply dangerous ideologies. If the last century taught you anything it should be to never travel those roads again, and that knocking sense into their advocates may actually be a good idea for the sake of humanity.
