    Sparring Oriented Martial Arts/Realistic

I know BJJ is realistic, but what are some others? I have yet to check out my local BJJ dojo, and want some backup plans in case if it is no good. Traditional styles only please. Thanks ;)

Muay Thai is older than Hapkido.

    Judo is older than Hapkido

    Boxing is older than Hapkido

They all have realistic sparring. Please don't say the bad word.

Define exactly what you want and mean by "traditional.".

Not MMA but an actual "martial art" that can fit in the traditional forums. I would not consider "boxing" as traditional though as it is a western martial art.

    You mean like this Forum?
    http://www.bullshido.net/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=100

    The one with this sub-forum?
    Western Martial Arts Discussion Forum

Some people believe the Chinese invented the Martial Arts. It's more likely that they were spread to Asia by Alexander the Great when he stuck phalanges all up in the continent's wet parts.

Either way, only idiots would ignore the massive contribution the west has made to the science of hurting people.

Boxing, Bartitsu, Fencing, Pankration, Wrestling, and more.
That's why I asked you to define what you were looking for in a traditional Martial art.

Also, please read the rules of each sub-forum, this question doesn't belong in the investigation forum.

My bad, may a mod please move this? I don't mean to seem like a noob, although it is plastered to my account at the moment.

My advice is to not be so quick to rule out boxing

    It's cheap, it's everywhere, and it's a tton of.fun.

To build on that, don't confine yourself to traditional because it has become bastardized. Many instructors and students seem to forget that many a Master fought challenge matches, sparred, drank and acted like the so called "mma meatheads" that traditionalists pretend they are better than in real life.

BJJ Judo Wrestling Boxing one really can't get more traditional than the various forms of folk wrestling.

Do kyokushin. I am just going to assume by traditional you mean uniforms belts and foreign lanuages.

Otherwise they spar flat stick if you get up there in ability. Got a mate of mine who loves it just been to japan for his 2nd dan.

Judo has all of those things too and I would add Sambo to the list of good arts for pressure testing

Members have named the arts which are considered to pressure test there techniques they do this though sparing then competition with sporting rules. This may make them seem less "traditional" to you but Tradition is quite hard to pin down as a lot of these systems really are not as old as they would like you to think.
