    Extreme skill or extreme showmanship?

There are people here who are WAY more knowledgeable than I am about kendo and kenjutsu. With that in mind, see below a vid I found while cruising around YouTube.

Now...maybe I don't know any better, but this doesn't look any appreciable sword skill. He's quite athletic and can windmill his sword around like no tomorrow, but I don't see any true martial skill here. Is there something there I'm just not seeing?

Well, I don't think that letting go of a sword in a sword fight would be optimal !

Not sure what that was all about other than silliness.

well, it's a nice catch....but not really about sword-fighting prowess, so much as "hey ladies (and guys)...look what I can do. I can has forms medal now?

Looks more like an extreme color guard skill.
Quoting my friend who actually do kendo:
"As soon as you let go of your sword willingly OR by accident, you have no right to call yourself a kendoka. My teacher used to make me do 200 push ups for each time I dropped my shinai."

Welcome to Xtreme Martial Arts. It is all about acrobatic skill, presentation, and costumes. This is less about the Martial and more about the "Art." Nothing wrong with it until they start claiming they can fight with that made up performance.

XMA, psssh. Wushu has t3h r341 sword twirling:

It's martially-flavored performance art, and I don't think it's supposed to be anything else.

Ehh, this one has the first by a ways:

IIF is spot on. The problem comes when they claim that they are walking, talking, killing machines.
