    Opinions on Chuck Norris?

Hey, I've always been a fan. What can I say? Been watching his karate flicks since I was a wee lad and first saw Forced Vengeance. And IMO I think he's legit. Started in Judo, studied Korean Karate when it was still hard core. Was a point fighting champion before there was a full contact scene here in the states. BJJ brown from the Machados, IIRC. And even though his Kick Drugs Out of America program is fairly McDojo-ish, ya still gotta admire his drive to help other people.

So what's the opinion on the board? Chuck Norris a respected Martial Artist, or Chuck Norris a cheesy MA "actor" who couldn't fight his way out of a wet paper bag?

    Discuss...

    Regards,
    Matt

Edited to correct my movie reference. Some fan, huh?

Even if everyone ignores all his tournament wins and 40+ years of training, you can't really ignore that line.

I my eyes Chuck Norris is a respected martial artist and a chessy MA actor, one doesn't impact the other.

He sells the total gym. I hate him. That is all.

Can't really make any claims about his legitimacy. All I can say is that I hate that machine.

    yes
Chuck was seen training with BJJ wearing his black belt however it was his karate one (or tang soo do or whatever).

He has NOT been awarded a BJJ black belt but he does hold a brown one from Machado:

(and possibly a blue one from Gracie)

i think he's one of the few martial arts actors who i can respect.

...now if only he'd stop doing a spinning back kick on walker.

I read his autobiography once. He's actually lived a pretty interesting life. And if nothing else, even if his striking is totally pathetic (which it probably isn't) his grappling game has gotta be good, with a long background in judo and BJJ.

His acting is pretty shitty though.

Seems like a pretty decent guy.
