As I sit and mumble into my grey beard, I seem to remember that his techniques worked well as long as he wasn't being resisted.

Which, if I recall correctly, was one of the very first contentions in this thread - that the video evidence presented to support Bussey's "bad-assery" was growling applied against a non-resisting, compliant partner.

This is my first post . . . so go ahead and do what you do to first time posters.

But I will say this: I did search for Robert Bussey and found a lot of really negative posts. I admit . . . I was shocked. I can expect to find "Ashida Kim" or "Konigun ninjutsu" as 'bullshido' but, for god's sake, not Bussey. He's a solid MA practitioner and devastating fighter. That's TRUTH. He may not longer be teaching traditional ninjutsu but the fact of the matter is the he can fuck a lot of people up.

I think you guys might be going overboard. He's a solid MA guy. Believe it.

Well, amigo, being an old(er) fart, I actually met and trained with Mr. Bussey. I was quite new, having only a couple of years of judo and defendo in the army. As far as I recall (and no, I did not brush up my research on the internet before posting this) he did talk about ninjutsu (back then we hadn't heard of "bujinkan" but he stressed that he had trained in several traditional styles and combined them. He spoke eloquently about getting his talent from God.

He was a nice enough guy.

If you're going to say that someone who practices Shotokan, or TKD, or kung fu is a legit martial artist . . . then Bussey is definitely a legit martial artist.

Funny, because, along with awful vids, I can find plenty of videos of TKD, Shotokan, and various Kung Fu types fighting and looking good. Where's the video of Bussey or his students fighting and looking like something I'd actually pay for instruction in?

That is strange, but then this article was likely written quite some time ago: the most recent date it mentions is 1997, whereas it looks like Trottier got his grade from Hayes in 2005. I guess he must have resolved any problems he had with Hayes between those two dates, unless it was just Bussey who had an issue, not his students?

Have Bujinkan guys fought in the ring? I don't recall any.

Though he is no longer with the Bujinkan, when he started fighting Anthony Netzler was Bujinkan. I think he trains with Enson Inoue. I used to train at Nagato's Dojo with him in Japan.

He actually preferred to identify himself as a Freestyle fighter.

Robert Bussey produced students who could ALMOST actually fight. Guys like Scott Morris, and to a lesser extent Steve Jennum (Who trained in other, better styles).

I had a look into Bussey when writing up my UFC II summaryhereRobert Bussey's site is when he talks about the award Rorion gave him at UFC II...the same event where he let his fighter bleed all over the mat and did nothing about it:

At the second UFC in Denver Colorado, Robert Bussey received an award recognizing him as the "King Of Combat" and as a pioneer of reality based martial arts.

Let me ask you this. And this is tentative. Not sure if I can deliver. But from that I understand, Jeremy Horn has actually trained extensively with Bussey in the past.

If Jeremy Horn were to say on the record that he believes Bussey to be a skilled martial artist and that he has improved his own game by what he's learned through training with Bussey, would that be significant?

Let's start with a source to back up your claim that "the fact that Bussey has been in fights of various kinds is pretty well attested to", just to prove that you're not an obsessed fanboy with a man crush. If it's well attested to and you're basing your opinion on facts, then you should have no problem right?
