Brian Jacks took our class last night.

Just wanted to share with you that Judo 8th dan, former world and Olympic Bronze medallist and Superstars champion Brian Jacks visited my club yesterday evening and took the class.
It was great to meet someone who, due more to his exploits as Superstars Champion, was my childhood idol.
Anyway i'm still smiling and telling anyone who's willing to listen all about it.

Sweet. I bet he had some serious chops to share.

Good for you Stu. I think every Judoka should seek out and train with elite Judoka so that the understand the huge gulf between rec Judo and elite Judo.

Absolutely, there are black belts and then there are international level Black belts who live and breath Judo.
The main thing Brian Jacks had as working on was throwing with a double lapel grip so that you could throw both sides without changing grips.

We know about his knees. We know he left Judo cos they wouldn't pay his paltry 'phone bill even itemised......

What an opportunity. Fantastic. Good luck to you (and him).

It is always to train with a world-class athlete, especially when they are down to earth and not pretentious.

The gulf is unbelievable unless you've experienced it.

I have mixed feelings about double lapel. Its a great grip if used positively but can be easily abused to stall and avoid positive Judo.

Glad to hear you're being taught to use it positively.

If he's anything like the former elite Judoka I know it will be to pay the coke bills and to ensure the pimps leave them alone.

I mean if you were a legit badass with the body of adonis, would you be a choirboy or would you have some fun...

                      I would have some fun.

Jacks left Judo having been the legitimate Rep 'cos the amateur ethos was being taken too far and for all the work he was doing, apparently getting his petrol bill and telephone expenses were being disputed. It was a Sysiphean task so he gave it up.

Nothing to do with coke and debts.

I mention this just in case you didn't have your tongue in your cheek ;-)
