9 yr old boy stops pitbull with BJJ.

Did a search, looked in the news forum and front page, didn't find a thread on this.

Dare I say our next Badass of the Month?

Boy stops pit bull attack with his bare hands

A 9-year-old Bakersfield boy is being called a hero after he saved a girl from a vicious pit bull.

Drew Heredia says he and a friend were walking her small dog Tuesday when, out of nowhere, a pit bull jumped on the dog.

The 12-year-old girl tried to save her little dog and the pit bull turned on her.

Heredia says he jumped on the dog and applied a chokehold that he learned by taking classes at a Brazilian Jiu Jitsu studio in southwest Bakersfield.

He held the dog for 20 minutes until an animal control officer arrived. “At first I wanted to kick it, but then I thought, it’s not a good idea because it could get my leg,” said Drew Heredia.

The girl was taken to Mercy Southwest Hospital where she was treated for puncture wounds.

The pit bull is being quarantined at the animal control office, where it will be euthanized after 10 days.

No one has claimed the dog.

The other dog was not hurt. It ran away during the attack, but returned home to the girl Friday afternoon.

I was a little shocked. Sure, he changed sides quickly, but I guess even a dog can realize it has more in common with the wolf than with the shephard.

I give him the names of some BJJ schools in the area, and we go our separate ways.

      That's pretty cool.

How come the lava sharks, broken glass and needles didn't get the kid while he was using his BJJ in the street?
Where there is only a choice between cowardice and violence, I would advise violence.

Let this be a lesson; if you want your kid to learn chi balls, you take them to a kung fu school for several years. If you want your kid to learn brass balls, you take them to a BJJ instructor for a couple of months.

That kid's going to be telling that story for the rest of his life, most likely with some embellishment to make it sound cooler to his buddies and to the sheilas...:D

It's getting euthanised? Talk about 10 day later death touch!

I have actually wondered about the effectiveness of grappling on animals (since obviously the body shape would be completely different).

Good stamina to hold the choke for that long. I did kinda suspect you couldn't choke a pitbull out though. Do we know if it was the legendary RNC or something else?
It seems to me that the Sanjuriu Martial Art is not in guestion, but, rather the character of Mr. Galt.

If you watch the video, the announcer calls it a "reverse naked choke", but the kid kinda shows the arm position for an RNC.

Someone on another thread said you couldn't blood choke a dog, the vessels are too far from the surface. You could still trachea choke it if you were reasonably strong (i.e. probably stronger than a 9-year-old) and didn't mind damaging or killing it.

He used BJJ on a dog? I didn't know pedobestiality was legal in Bakersfield...

                    Anyway, Two points:

That girl's dog is a punk bitch.

I've been choking my dogs (Two german shephards and an american pitbull) when they get in fights for years! I fucking knew I should've trademarked this when I had the chance.

This doesn't mean anything. BJJ is shit on the streets. He would've been fucked if there had been multiple pitbulls.

The kid got lucky this time. But he needs to learn some groin strikes and eye gouges if hopes to walk away next time.
