BJJ White Belt Vs Judo Black Belts

I read that BJ Penn was actually a black belt (or almost) in BJJ in that video and dressed as a white belt for the Judo competition. So he was FAR higher than a BJJ white belt - so the video is a downright lie. Makes me think why do they promote it the way they do? Fake marketing claims = bullshido.Last edited by Lefty; 12/30/2006 6:41pm, .

A few other things:
BJ Penn never gets an Ippon in that entire video which is the goal of Judo.
Penn does moves I dont think are permitted in Judo competition eg. he tries to do an uchimata and when that fails he jumps on the standing Judoka's back. I've never seen that before and doubt jumping on someone's back is permitted. I wonder why this wasnt picked up by refs?
Also you only get 10 seconds to ground grapple in those competitions and the refs seem very lax about standing the players up again. The refs allow him to win on the ground by giving him the time to do so.

Also you have to ask yourself better at what? There's reasons why people cross train in BJJ and Judo.

It didn't take BJ Penn a long time to get a purple. He got his black in three years so his purple was probably around 1.5. Many people are still white belts at a year and a half in. Also do you have any proof that he wasn't a white belt?
