The reversal at 20:10 is just amazing.

It's like one of those educational films you see back in the fifties.

Great vid. Alot of the stuff Mifune does looks like some of the high level Yoshinkan aikido I've seen...quick throws, breaking or reversing balance, all the stuff I love to try and do to people.

Kicked McArthurs ass without any throw. Still wonder if he sparred with Ueshiba.

Woa that was awesome. Watching him just walk around all those throws was something else.

Absolutely beautiful. That is one of the best hours I've ever spent looking at a screen.

Great video, but is the Judo being taught there the same Judo being taught today?

                            Great Vid

                            Odacon,
You bring up a good point. I think there are a few orgiinizations that are still teaching judo that way (ie Carl Gies and some offshoots of Mel Bruno) but most are just teaching their students one of two throws and leaving it at that and groundwork consists of turtling up. But that is the fault of the AAU, not the Kodokan.
But I must humbly say after watching this vid I muist retract my previous BS about some of the Judos throws being useless.:binkybaby

That footage was beautiful. Many parallels in some of those techniques to Aikido techniques, and for obvious reasons (left as exercise for the reader). Unfortunately I have not practiced Judo, are many of these techniques no longer practiced?
