My question is this. Who in their right mind actually thinks that something like this would work. Dumb, that's all I can think of!

Fang Shen Do - The art of defending against kicks that weren't going to hit you any way! Seriously tho, how embarrassed would you be having to pose in that pic?

Neothink, eh? Time to go wayback machine, I think

Why do the cult of teh D3adly Str33tfighters always talk about nut striking? They always note how in MMA teh deadly nut strikes are illegal. And then they act as if it is some sort of secret technique that a Jiu-Jitsu/wrestler/grappler would have never heard or thought of.

Then finally they put stupid pictures like that on their websites.

          The stupidity is frustrating.

you know what is really frustrating? spending (wasting) 5 years of your life in FSD.
If instead I did MMA I would own today, god damnit!

              Hi GreenHornet,
I have seen your coach fight and friends of mine have trained with him.

So yes, I can agree with you 100% you would own today.

But you are with a very reputable team that trains hard, in a City that is almost a Meca for MMA. I for one look forward to seeing you in the ring, enjoy it!

I used to tell waiters that I trained this gem of wisdom, I think it might be applicable here:

"I am not personally responsible for other people's stupidity!"

                  Fang Shen Do Timeline

I've finally figured out how to best present the Fang Shen Do timeline. I've created a blog where I plan to post relevant FSD issues and topics that don't fit well into this forum. Though I expect the primary discussion to happen here, it's one more place people can find out about Fang Shen Do. You can check it out at:

                  http://fangshendont.blogspot.com/

There's not much there now. I plan on writing a series of posts for current students on how to develop an exit strategy.

If I've left out any events that are significant (and I know I have), just PM me and I'll add them to the timeline.

                    Research

Hi guys. I just wanted to say that everyone involved here, particularly Stringfellow has done a great job in researching Fang Shen Do. I think many of you can see though that we're now starting to hit the proverbial brickwall. Researching using the internet can only take us so far on any given subject. The way I see it the only way to truly construct a comprehensive history of FSD is talk to former students, instructors, franchisees who have first hand knowledge of what really went on.

                      Hi AndrewA,

I dont think its a complete brick wall yet. I havent exhausted all of the offline research that is available. We can still scan in a bunch of publicly available records and put them up here. Also, I am still finding interesting things with google, altavista and the "wayback machine." Not everything is yet making its way into the threads.

We have had a lot of former students post here, I for one would find it really interesting to have some of the former school owners come forward at some point.

Though given the anonymity of the internet it is entirely possible that they have already posted here and we dont know which ones they are.

I think you're right in that we could definitely use more input from former students, etc. While we've found most of the "easy" stuff on the Internet, I would expect that as we learn new information we'll still use the Internet to help corroborate it.

I guess the main issue is how to get to those people that might be able to contribute but don't know about this thread. So far it's been strictly word of mouth. I don't think that many FSD (ex-)students google "fang shen do" on a frequent basis. Any ideas?

Here's what scares me though. With the limits of internet searches (those being the information presented is 90% coming from the source of your investigation) and the flaws therein it scares me that FSD thought this was 'good information' to send out. Realistically what are they 'hiding' from public scrutiny.

I like the scientology linkages (I missed the Ann Rand ones) as they ilustrate a point that has been up till now, not discussed. With the outing that South Park did of the church it begs the question about FSD, maybe the truly insane stories are true?

What about contacting a reporter and feeding them the information gained so far? Let them complete their investigation and they'll start writing articles about them.

Great idea. We'd need one who would take this seriously. If you sent an e-mail saying "crazy cult martial art check it out!" I think they'd pass. Does anyone have any contacts with the local papers?

Based on what I know about newspapers, which granted is not a whole lot, I doubt they would run a story on FSD at this time. First of all newspapers actually do very little in the way of investigative reporting. By that I mean researching a topic from scratch and presenting the conclusions. Most 'reporting' is just that; re-hashing information that's already in the public domain or quoting information that's given to them by a source (such as the police). I also think that newspapers are approached quite regularly by people who want them to run a story on an 'injustice' issue. They obviously can't persue every story. I would think that before any paper in Ottawa would run with a FSD story there would have to be a lawsuit or some kind of legal issue to report on, or something involving FSD would have to happen that is of such an outrageous nature that it would be a newsworthy event. But having said all this reporters are always looking for stories. Who knows maybe they would be interested.
