Cold Steel (maker of a pretty badass kukri) manufactures a Spetz Shovel replica with pre-sharpened edges.

There's another cutting demo that convinces me a cut from a kukri will ruin a person. They used to make a small version of the Gurkha kukri that was pretty good. Cold Steel has discontinued some of the stuff I like.

I've pissed off alot of Russians and I only see them in military surplus stores , camping supply stores , and pictured on RBSD and Systema websites .

If I am ever found with one buried in my forehead ... we know who did it ... and that Hapkido knife defenses don't work on small shovels .

Seriously though. Allegedly and from what I have heard (so I'm standing to be corrected if I'm wrong), a Spetnaz shovel is a military entrenching tool that is used by spetnaz. allegedly they are shapered and balanced for throwing.

I've never seen one so....

My dad's entrenching tool came with a sharpened edge. I used it to chop wood after I broke his woodaxe when we were camping once. It worked okay, but the handle shape made it a bit awkward.

He picked it up at some surplus store, i think it was Canadian issue. Fully colapsable. *shrug*
It broke a while back. Damn rust.

Historically, ET's as a melee weapon is well documented. During Stalingrad, Germans lacking SMG's prefered the shovel to their rifles and knifes in CQC and house to house fighting. There are lots of anecdotal evidence of ET's shovels and spades being used offensively in trench raiding combat in both world wars as well. At least two references to US troops using their ET's over knives or machetes in mano y mano combat in Vietnam.

One thing is the propaganda surrounding it, another thing is that the soldiers learn to use it for fighting too... That doesn't make the best ever fighting tool from the trench shovel, nor invincible supermans from Russian soldiers. However, it is a pretty damned huge blade to be cut with...
Now, Ru Klas, if I may steal your attention for a second:
