Bent Arm Lock From Inside the Guard???

I really don know what this technique is called so i figured i'd call it "Bent Arm Lock From Inside the Guard" and write a thread on it to see if anyone knows what im talking about.

I was rolling today with one of the senior students in my guard. He didn't have a gi on so i tried to go for underhooks. He immediately got control of my left arm and forced it to the ground. He then stands up in my guard and lifts me off the ground. Then he grabs my left arm with his right hand (my arm is now behind my back) and gets back on to his knees. My arm is now pinned to the ground at a 45 degree angle behind my back and i can't really set anything up because if i move too much my arm will be bent to the point that i would tap or get my arm broken. We where in that position for about 3 of the 5 minute round; i tried to free my arm but i couldn't. Every time i tired to pull my arm out he'd push the arm behind my back even more making the position even more painful.

To simplify what it looked like imagine a police officer with a bent arm lock behind a persons back. It was just like that except the guy was in my guard.

Instead of staying in that position i just tapped out because i didn't want to hurt myself by trying to get out of a move i haven't even seen in grappling before. He did it pretty fast too and i really didn't see it coming. He said he was going for some sort of wrist lock.

Has anyone been caught in this type of move before? If you have, how did you escape and what where your other options with your free arm?

actually thats what i thought when he got the move on me. I thought to myself, " what the hell where you thinking, getting into this stupid position!" I really didn't expect it to happen, but it did.

I've got my elbow broken with one of these.... Even if it was an accident, its a legit technique for busting the inside capsule. Be careful with it. there's far less play compared with a straight armbar, and the inside capsule is weaker than the center one.

I immediately thought of Frank Mir's armlock on Pete Williams but this is something totally different, so nevermind. You got crappled. Heh.

I use this method to pass guard sometimes. It's a good method to use wehn grappling no-gi and the guy won't open his legs. With a gi you can set up a forearm choke. I beleive this was Carlson's favourite guard pass.

Ditto, though I suppose "from inside the guard???" should've been a dead give away that it wasn't my favorite fucking sub ever.

            Crappled to the nth degree

            edit: Say what Johnny?!

I have tapped people with it. I trap the guys arm with my left and then pass it over to my right hand and push straight up. It's just like a behind the back chicken wing except you are in front of the guy.

If you pass the arm underneath and behind the back to your opposite arm, it is a setup for a pretty good guard pass. Try defending your guard with only one arm.

There's a variation for the gi as well. Take the gi lapel out, and pass it around the back. This effectively traps the arm on the side the lapel was pulled out of.

Definately a legitimate technique. I use it to pass both gi and no-gi. I have tapped people with inflexible shoulders as well. It is a gimmick technique - and once you get someone with it they won't be falling for it again.

I haven't seen this one in person, but then again I've spent more time injured than training. I do recall seeing a very similar technique posted on grapplearts.

I used this to pass quite often. The only problem I have with it is to make them open the guard. Can't seem to find good leverage anywhere. JohnnyS and Yrkoon, any tips for this?

so, as a submission, this is a kimura from inside guard?

I always thought of it as a kind of "reverse kimura" from the guard. It works better as a guard passing tool rather than a submission, imho, since the their are several variables that can happen once the person opens guard.

Once you get "duped" into this would you be better off opening your guard and rolling to your side?
