How safe and effective is it to hit with the back of the wrist? I've heard about palm strikes, but not the back of the wrist. Right now I'm learning Drunken Boxing, and the hand technique I'm using now is called Drunken Bottle Fist, which basically uses the back of the wrist of either or both hands.

But if you find yourself with your hand below a chin, palm down, then maybe, just maybe it's worth whacking the chin upwards, if only to follow through with a r34l punch.
Try it on yourself. As hard as you can. Go on, try it!

It's pretty beat up, but it is a complete copy....

There is a point at the end of the unla (radius?) bone very near the wrist that has a use as a weapon. as people on here have mentioned, there are far better ways to train to fight then complicated backhand type strikes using the wrist, but if you must,....
That area has only skin over the bone so you can get used to the slight pain, and it is bone, so you can use it like a club. WC uses it up under the chin exclusively, and some claim it can cause a fatal injury this way. I doubt that, but we can hit solid walls and things pretty hard in demonstrations with this type of strike.

It hurt my wrist more than my temple, which was probably the wrong target.
I did say 'under the chin'. Wrist + temple = comedy
Now try it again.

I learnt this move back in my krotty days, we were told it was for if your hand was injured somehow. I think it could be viable but it's low percentage, unless you have a real need for it i dont see much point to it.
It's a bony tough area so I reckon one could do some serious damage with it if one were to connect with it, which I think is unlikely when facing a skilled opponent.
