They did. I think fug or someone else posted news about a second set of "alternative" Kyokushin sparring rules with handgear and head contact. It's definitely got momentum.

Look in the JMA forum, I think.

Will do! I have actually seen tkd attempting to do this also. much more exciting from a spectator's perspective in my opinion.

Karate was good. It got MCdojoed. Every fella who puts on a gi and said `i do/teach karate` just because he felt like doing so was tolerated. That was the biggest mistake. Nobody tolerates a fella roling around a bit an declaring he is a bjj variation of some sort.

I have seen and heard from several here that karate is a bit tougher than in Europe and the US. Kids who cry here doing practice have to go to the side so others can train. Bonjaskis who get fouled upon and choose to use the rules as a smart way victory(which I can understand completely) are disrecpected here by women.
The traditional Goju karate dojo i stayed at for a short while did full concat sparing. The Ashihara dojo I go to now go hard also. I trained only 5 times in a `point` sparring university club where they knocked me a concussion. :violent1:
In Belgium, you needed (about 30 years ago) to be 18 years old before you could compete.
Impact equpment, like the makiwara (they didn`t not have kickpads then) was considered a fundamental training tool. Impact training was vital.

Karate is recovering (but probably never completely will) from the inepts who call themselves karateka masters without ever being bruised.
                          So we called BS.
Now we see more a focus on the good sides of karate. This is good for everyone. Karate is going back to its roots, keeping its basics and finallyYYYYYYYYY adopting some new training tools and ideas. We are going back to the tradition. Learning how to fight.:waoya

Goju ryu was the first style I trained as a kid.

It wasn't hard, nor realistic, nor did I really enjoy it.

But it's part of my MA journey leading up (through WingTsun ;-) ) to my actual BJJ training today, so... Yeah, big up for tough karate!

If all you do in your dojo is what these guys are doing at the beginning of the video you'll probably like a change of dojo... or you'll end up as they at the end of the video. (comic relief)
