Jon Jones has been named the suspect in a hit-and-run car accident in Albuquerque, N.M., according to Albuquerque Police Department spokesman Simon Drobik.

A previous report stated that the woman whose car was hit Sunday morning was middle-aged, but she's actually in her 20s and pregnant, the Albuquerque PD stated in a press release Sunday night. The woman was taken to the hospital with minor injuries.

Jones is still wanted for questioning. Police attempted to reach the UFC champion at his Albuquerque home Sunday, but could not get in touch with him, according to the release. The release also stated that the APD reached out to Jones' lawyer, but have not heard back.

"Yes, he is the suspect and we're hoping that he will contact us to give us his side of the story," Drobik told MMAFighting.com.
The Albuquerque PD Department is asking Jones to reach out by calling (505) 242-2677.

I was thinking the exact same thing. Leaving the scene is a slap on the wrist compared to dui. Plus if it was drugs the athletic commission might get involved.

What a quality individual, hitting and running on a pregnant woman. Oh well. Sport is going to have to do something to clean up it's image a bit. Still not as bad as football, I guess.

If he is actually guilty of this and was driving under the influence, I vote that the UFC strip him of his title, suspend him for two years, and have DC fight Rumble for the vacant belt.

Leaving the scene of an injury accident can be a Felony in Idaho...don't know New Mexico.

Albuquerque police seek Jon Jones as suspect in hit-and-run crash

                          Brett Okamoto

Albuquerque police are currently searching for UFC light heavyweight champion Jon Jones as a suspect in connection with a hit-and-run accident on Sunday morning.

Albuquerque PD spokesman Simon Drobik said Jones is facing a misdemeanor hit-and-run charge related to an accident that sent a pregnant woman driving another vehicle to the hospital with "non life-threatening injuries." He would be liable for damages to the vehicles involved and medical costs of the 20-something woman.

"The case has progressed and he is now our suspect in the the hit and run that happened earlier this morning involving a pregnant female," Drobik said. "We are now definitely looking at him as a suspect."

                          .....

Jones, 27, is scheduled to defend his 205-pound title against Anthony Johnson at UFC 187 on May 23 in Las Vegas. The UFC has not announced any change to the card and Johnson's manager, Glenn Robinson, told ESPN.com Johnson has not been informed of any opponent change.

                            Associated Press
ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (AP) - UFC light heavyweight champion Jon "Bones" Jones ran from a Sunday crash that hospitalized a pregnant woman but quickly came back to grab "a large handful of cash" from the car, witnesses told police.

According to police, the accident occurred in southeastern Albuquerque just before noon Sunday when the driver of a rental Silver SUV ran a red light. The driver, whom an off-duty officer identified as Jones, ran from the scene but then returned for the cash before fleeing again, police said.

"Witnesses stated he shoved the cash into his pants and ran north," the report said

Albuquerque Officer Simon Drobik said authorities are searching for Jones, who's wanted for questioning, but he has not been located. No charges have been filed.

A woman driving the other vehicle received minor injuries in the crash.

Officers found a pipe with marijuana in the car as well as MMA and rental car documents in Jones' name, the report said.

Police said they have been unable to reach Jones or his lawyer.
