Wow, that sounds pretty cool. I'll have to keep my eyes open for that.

Diary of a College Samurai

Originally posted by Bluto BlutarskyHagakure is a collection of little short stories (mostly each one is no longer than a paragraph) that describes instances of actions by the samurai.
The anecdotes are supposed to be a "window into the mind" of the samurai and how they act and react in society to describe the code of bushido.
The anecdotes were related to a hermit or monk or something (can't remember) by a masterless samurai and the monk/hermit recorded the anecdotes.
I would be EXTREMELY pissed to find a ninja larper is naming his training manual after the hagakure.
The reason I suggested it is because in a large number of the anecdotes it has a samurai or someone bieng put to death or commiting seppuku. That would be funny in a "college samurai larping" context I think. It would take a huge amount of work though.
I was Thinking about it because I recently just found my copy that I thought I lost.

Day 97
Dear Diary
It feels good to be writing in you at my customary place in my dormitory room. Unfortunately even that pleasure has been marred. It has been some time since I've written to you, for when I returned to my room after being released from the hospital following my last entry, I travelled back home and discovered that my sanctuary had been burgled! I must regard this as my own fault, diary, and I know that if I fail to gain revenge, then I will have failed and my life is forfeit, as is honorable. It seems to me diary, that I have recently been lucky enough to be confronted with many opportunities to gloriously disembowel myself. But we shall see how that pans out.
The burglary would have been seen by any ordinary Gaijin peasant as merely a prank, but I know better. First, diary, it was a defilement, my most holy books were defiled, the titles being written on and over, to name a few they touched Musashi's most revered book, replacing Rings with Men. The Book of Five Men indeed. While it is true that musashi was easily the equal in strength to five men, I sincerely doubt that is what they were referring to. The other one which bothers me more than any of the rest, diary, is that I found lying open on my bed my copy of the most holy of Samurai texts, retitled in a blasphemous way. I'm still not sure whether proprietry demand that I destroy it, or if I should honor it and leave it on my shelf, despite it now technically titled "Fagakure". I will haveto meditate on this
Other than the actual acts itself (many others of which abound. I have had to replace all of my food, and one of my wall hangings was tainted yellow. The white stains on my pillow do not bear thinking about...) I discovered, obviously left for me to find, a paper that had written on it merely "Shinobi for life" and a number of small designs clearly meant to imitate Kanji. Of course they failed. But I must unravel this mystery to discover exactly who burgled my sanctuary. I suspect that it could not merely have been just the ninja i've mentioned before. The stains on my pillow are far too numerous to be the work of a single Ninja. Only samurai are capable of such an epic undertaking. Speaking of which, diary, I have not yet allowed Astos or any of my students in to see my room. They must not know, I would hate for them to believe that my Samurai Powers are too weak to fend off mere ninjas. If only I'd been here when they tried this. But now, diary, I am to bed, though I dread the pain in my neck tommorow morning. I will haveto see about procuring a new pillow.
Forever and Always.

Dear Sephy-Poo
I just wanted to thank you for the great things you have taught and, ahem, shown me. My eyes have been opened to the impeccable ways of the samurai, and the powers of presence and persuasion. I constantly stand in awe of your level of Oni powers, and the precision with which you wield Demon Killer.
It becomes very hard for me to see you devote time to pursuing the females. Your love-kiai sends shivers up my spine, and makes my toes curl in my geta. I love the way you grunt when you sheath your sword, and i love the way you undo your top knot and let your hair flow gracefully out the window of the Civic as we take our roadtrips to the beach. I hope that i can remain your apprentice and your best friend until i lay bleeding in the fields, breathing my last in glorious defeat as i write my death poem about the cherry blossoms and dewy grass.
As i sit here sewing up the rip in your hakama, i often stop to breathe in the faint fumes of your leg sweat. The aroma is so masculine and intoxicating. Its almost as if you are here with me, and not off doing other things. It will be ready for you soon.....But i already am....
Yours,
Astos
