    Hello.

    Hello.

Hi, and since this is the ADVANCED TECHNIQUE FORUM, here is something appropriate:

I've been messed with different things to do with the Kimura grip and also looking for a way to stop getting mauled by a friend of mine who is an excellent wrestler with a strong top game. So last week as he blasted through my half guard I managed to secure a kimura grip on him. I've done this before and he's shut me down. But this time I had a new trick:
YouTube- Kimura to Armbar from Bottom of Side Control

So I tried the basic Kimura sweep, that failed when he moved around to N/S, so I went with it, popped my hips out, got to my knees and was able to transition to an armbar and finish. It all kind of just happened friday. Well Sunday I went in thinking "I want to hit that again somehow" and I did. So I decided to make a quick reference video for it.

It's not a how-to video and I'm doing a bunch of stuff wrong, it's just a reference for the gross technique movement.

Ehh I don't know about that move. I've had plenty of success with the kimura sweep, perhaps re-examine your sweep. Also the way the guy is passing in the video you should be able to just escape your hips out by pushing on his head the direction he is attempting to move his hips around. He's got no control of your upper spine (head/shoulder) to stop you from shrimping.

Retnuheht: Welcome to the forums, maybe if we get enough new people we'll actually turn this section into an active area of the site again.

The way he's passing there is just so I could get a better camera angle on my arms.
And the basic kimura sweep works great for me on most anyone my size, but the guys I'm getting smashed by are about 45lbs heavier.
They are strong enough to keep their arm tucked into their body and protected while they smash me down.
Obviously I wouldn't skip straight to this without trying the basic kimura sweep first.

If they are keeping their arm tucked into their body they can't post if you roll them. Around :17-20 in your video why not try to suck the arm into your chest and bridge and reverse them into n/s position. Similar in principle to this video.

Thank you ALL. Remember...when ALL other things are equal...the advantage goes to the bigger and stronger person. This is WHY there are weight classes. Mike Tyson and Julio Cesar Chavez were in their prime at the EXACT time. You answer this question. WHO would win? WHY? WHY did it (a bout between Mike and Julio) NOT happen? Answer these...and you have your answer to the above.

That's actually what I was trying to do when I hit this the first time. The guy manuevered around to side control on the other side of me, and led to me popping my hips out and so on. So yeah, go for the standard Kimura sweep first, if they move to N/S go for the above, if they manage to swing all the way around pop up and go for the one I stumbled upon.

I see. What about taking the back once you establish that grip from your knees? It seems higher percent.

Didn't get a chance to try it and wasn't willing to let go of the arm to try to get to the back. I'm not big on letting go of a really solid control point where I'm fairly safe to get into a scramble with a wrestler who has 45lbs on me.
I thought about trying to jump over his back to finish the kimura that way, dunno how well that would work. I'm hoping to get try it out some more wednesday.

                              IIRC the answer is Sport.
