I've never trained with or met the man. In addition, I am not a fan at all of aikido. I do know that Mr. Segal is very good at what he does but he does not used aikido in his movies, he for the most part uses an American Kenpo technique called "deflecting hammer" or a slight variation which is what you see when he is rushed at by an adversary. This kenpo technique is a basic technique which is the fourth technique that is taught to beginning white belts in preparation for their yellow belt test. I love how folks just oohh and ahhh over his fight scenes :-)

I'm not claiming him for anything, I'm just saying that what he uses in his movies from what I have witnessed is not at all aikido. It's pretty much kenpo all the way, if you know anything about aikido, you'll know that it is strictly a defensive art, there are no strikes and what does he do in his movies or training of mma fighters? He uses strikes and likes to call his system"aikido" Kenpo is what it is, it doesn't need any one person or name to make it effective. By the way, Seagal's technique is not anything he invented, it's called a front snap kick and you can find it any martial arts dojo that utilizes strikes. Also, just for the record, Al Gore did not invent the internet (just messin' with ya there a little) :-).

And Chuckie Zitto dove across a table in a crowded Manhattan disco , tackled VanDamme and beat him down.
As goes Seagal , perhaps it's a case of him being a victim of his own stardom , the myth destroying the man as it were.

Ya know something? Maybe it's because I'm old curmudgeonly and cynically cranky , maybe it's because I destroyed my right knee *again* , however *you* , whom leeemmme guess is some where along about Blue , maybe Green coming along here and yapping about Kenpo-Kempo being the be-all end-all is a freaking embarassment to every other Kempo-Kenpo-Kajukenbo practitioner here. Parker didn't invent the front kick , Hiro already pointed that out quite succinctly , nor did Parker really invent Deflecting Hammer or raking Mace. And for what it's worth , the man himself if he was alive would call your ass down for what you've said here already.
Apologies for my nasty attitude , but to paraphrase Omega " shut the f*** up while you're behind.".
