Chinese Shaolin Kung Fu vs. Thai Kick-Boxing Competition

November 24, Beijing Time, the Chinese Kung Fu [功夫, gong fu] vs. Professional Thai Kick-boxing Competition Organizing Committee issued a public announcement: The 2009 Chinese Kung Fu vs. Professional Thai Kick-boxing Competition will be held in 2009 December at Foshan in Guangdong. The competition will use Chinese wushu rules as a foundation, integrated with a portion of Thai Kick-boxing rules, allowing the two opposing combatants to use elbows and knee techniques to attack their opponent, with every match having five rounds and each round being three minutes.

Hopefully they mean Sanda and are just ignorant. In support of this theory, the blogger doesn't even seem to know what Muay Thai is. If this was the case, the competition would basically be Sanda with knees and elbows added. And would also be awesome.

I'm actually hoping that the Muay Thai fighters DON'T fight monks who train for Sanda, but instead square off against monks who only train for the Taolu (forms) aspect of competitive wushu.

The comedic possibilities would be extraordinary.

It's another Muay Thai versus San Da competition. There have been a lot of these already.
Here's a match with Liu Hailong, who, as far as I can tell, is/was the #1 hotshot in San Da:

From what I understand, these events usually go down about 40/60 in terms of Chinese/Thai victories, with the Thai being the more dominant. The wins the Chinese do get are usually from points from throws.

it seems that when the fights are held in china, more chinese fighters win, but when they are held in thailand, more thai fighters win.

this is not surprising to me in the least.
