    Aikido with added Karate-style striking?

A system of this nature was previously discussed on this site and found to be bullshido (or at least a crappy way).

Can anyone remember what the name of the style was? I can't seem to find it now. I thought that it might've been 'Aikido-ken', but that doesn't turn up any useful search results here, or anywhere else for that matter...

Na, that wasn't it. The one I was thinking of was founded by some American self-proclaimed grandmaster and it was definitely named Aikido-something.

I remember reading the investigation on MABS before I registered...

Sanjuriu and Akidote come to mind.

        EDIT: Sorry, Kakidote.

Some of the atemi techniques for uke in a lot of styles look like really sloppy overhand chops like you'd see in Star Trek or movies from the 1960s.

I've never once learned a defense for someone interlacing all ten of his fingers and trying to smash me on the shoulderblade.

How about for when someone falls down and upkicks you with both feet? Or when someone tries a sloppy tomoenage?

I tried that when I was like.... 12, and had watched too much DBZ.

                  I never tried it again.

Yeah, there's some place near where I live called the Bushido Academy and they list some of their syllabus as 'Aikido-Te'.

Actually te means hand, so it would be The way of Harmonizing with Energy Hand. tee-hee.

I have heard the Yoshinkan style of Aikido incorporates Karate-like atemi. But I've never experienced it.

"Te" is the part of "karate" that says hand. So it would be something like the harmony spirit way hand, which doesn't work. At best if you wanted to say something so atrocious you should render it more like "aikitedo." Or better yet if you're making up your own shit in England, speak English.

                            EDIT: Damn, sniped.

Aikido Yoshinkan does tend to use more atemi then your standard modern day Aikido. Like a lot of arts, Aikido has a couple of different styles ranging from zen hippie crap, to your run of the mill Aikido that teaches mostly joint locks and throws (closer to the style O-Sensei taught in his later years after WWII), to a style that is closer to Aikijujutsu that O-Sensei was teaching in his earlier years. This style uses more striking and "harder" techniques than you find in modern Aikido. Back when I trained in Aikido, one of my instructors had his background in Yoshinkan and he took a much more real world approach to Aikido as a martial art, as opposed to any philosophical angle.

I haven't trained in Aikido for 6-7 years so I'm not the expert on the topic, but that is what I remember.
