    But it does produce some funny looking fights with two guys standing nose to nose punching each other in the gut.
    Well, my old school wasn't an official Kyokushin school, but the guy was heavily influenced by one of his teachers who was. I remember meeting Mas Oyama's daughter. The sparring was exactly the what you saw in the videos, except we went for the takedowns, grappling, submissions, etc. Of course, I wouldn't just stand there and trade blows. I would shove people, get them moving backward, and then execute into them.

    Vieux would probably know better than anyone here, if he's reading.

      Strangely enough, the only form that I would even remotely consider learning at the moment is a tai chi form, albeit from someone who, after showing me a sequence, would glove up and punch me in the nose with that move.

      KK does kickboxing as well if it's a good school.

        Kickboxing is what I want. I might have to go to an MMA gym 40 minutes away to get it. The Search Begins...

          I think Phil is the greatest MT coach in the entire country (and an awesome person to boot), and I think Ross is a weenie who happens to have good SanDa fighters training at his gym, but I am making a point of encouraging everyone who expresses an interest in SanDa on their own, and is actually close to one of the 6 or 7 elite gyms to try SanDa first.

          That's my version of "Train Judo"

              Lol. Where exactly are you anyway? Or is this just a case of the CMA world being a small one?

                AAHH!! That explains the uselessly high side kick in the beginning of the form. :)

                    It's how I was taught it.

                      He's quit the isshinryu school. Which means he's also quit training.

                      Don't worry, he just got right with Jesus.
                      Go placidly amid the noise and haste,
                      and remember what peace there may be in silence.
                      As far as possible, without surrender,
                      be on good terms with all persons.
                      Speak your truth quietly and clearly;
                      and listen to others,
                      even to the dull and ignorant;
                      they too have their story.

                          i'm starting to follow jack rusher's lead and am just pointing people to the best quality striking coach in nyc first, then if that isn't for them, i make other suggestions (among them to check out NY Sanda).

                          it wasn't meant to be a dig at ross. he runs a good gym and puts out good fighters. people can make their own minds up about him personally.

                          been splitting my time between this and another forum (japan related stuff.) i forget how important the throwdowns are for the general level of respect here. boards that have little to no in-person contact tend to get me really pissed off (especially when some pencil necked 16 year old talks smack to me, but i digress.)

                            So sorry. Many apologies. I keep forgetting that WTF cares about forms competition. :-)

                              MC -- I stopped altogether with that school. My training there has been zilch for about two months, infrequent for about eight months before that, and frustrated but frequent for six months to a year before that.

                                My sarcasm is lost on the internet.

                                I was just kidding. I don't care. My forms are shitty now. I haven't practiced any of them for at least 4 years. I'm surprised I still remember them.

                                Anybody feeling like Gong Sau forms fight?
