No, but that's not what he was afraid of. He was afraid of looking bad in front of his students, because he has a bit of himself invested in the role of sensei..

Then he is a crap teacher, because looking like an idiot from time to time is inevitable.

        And he's also human.

1.2, congrats and good luck. Hedge, Sirc, Faunce, and the like may have been harsh, but they did so with best of intentions, which I'm sure you already know. I think anyone who's been on the site long enough has learned that without someone to play angry asshat, nothing gets changed.

Aw, shucks, I don't mind looking bad in front of my students. Rather, I didn't after I'd been an instructor for a few months, but now I can't mind or not mind, since I don't have any students anymore, what with quitting the school.

I thought you were some form of assassin, hired by Cy Q. to send me a message.

          Thanks ysc87.

            This.

DerHamburglar108 tells everyone to shut the fuck up, and it's exquisite to watch the few times someone gets what he is really saying. (I tried to explain it to a n00b once, but I think it was like explaining a joke -- it ruined the whole thing.)

We are discussing fighting arts. People who can't cope with a hard word probably can't cope with a hard punch. Combativeness comes with the territory.

It's the Bullshido ethic, and it keeps me coming back, even when the place pisses me off and I swear I'll never return.

If I come for you, I'll do my own dirty work, and you'll have fair warning.

Also, I won't kill you. That's been done to death.

Notice the Gong Sau tag next to his user name? That means I can probably get Hedge to sucker-choke out some guy I don't like if I can convince him that the dude is teaching Jits without certification, with the promise of a free beer afterwards. Well, maybe.

                Thanks ysc87.
                Yer welcome.

You made the right call, and it was obviously your decision, not anyone else's.

This isn't necessarily analogous, but I was raised fundamentalist Christian, which is probably the most significant change I've ever made (I'm an atheist now), and it took such a weird combination of being told off well, being encouraged to explore other things here and there, people around my church being douchebags, my questioning things in detail, etc. that I can't identify any of the individual processes, other than to say that was a complicated system of shit that brought it about, and my personality and choices were at least some part of it, because I've seen other people go through almost the same shit and come back reaffirmed wack jobs.

Not to try and step on the toes of any of the reasonable religious here, and I'm going to take the self-centered chance that going from fundie to atheist is a bigger shift than changing dojos, but I sympathize with the difficulty of the decision you made and wish you the best of luck.

                    Uh huh.

Anyway, good job on finally getting "it."

But newsflash, fagomotron 2000, I am a "TMA'er" as you so call it. The idea that everyone thinks I'm some MMA meathead is HIL-AR-IOUS.

Glad you've decided to stop doing such a shitty art.

I do envy people who get those leaving excuses, though.
Sometimes doing the right thing and doing the easy thing aren't the same.

If you waited for a "leaving excuse" you would not have learned how to deal with these situations in the real world, where they will invariably crop up.

You really don't know what happened there at all, did you?

Somebody cheated at tag and you think you totally handled a "brawl." You're probably pretty awesome at point sparring if you managed not to give up a single point against the guy, but that wasn't a fight. Tell the truth now. He stopped after a touch didn't he? He threw in short combinations or single techniques.

That this guy was a former brown belt at your school and couldn't touch you when he really wanted to says a lot more about your school than anything you did.

I've got a pushup backlog because of several posts in this thread, including the first one.

You misunderstood something, but it was a mistake made easily enough. I said our tournaments were point sparring, not our class sparring. I have had my nose broken, and countless bloodied noses. My brother also has had many bloody noses, and is currently out with a bruised rib. Depending on who you are fighting, and what you want to do, we go from light to hard sparring. Never full force, but it can get hard. As for the guy, by former I meant like 10-15 years ago, I don't know exactly but it is in that range, and he did throw more then 2-3 punches in succession. Not to say some people don't fight like what you described even in class, but our instructor tries to make it a point to not play tag.

But I am pretty awesome at point sparring, having won my share of tournaments. I have trophy that is a big cup, and another that is like 4ft. tall. I always lose in forms, and then beat those people down in the point sparring. If you want some tips to get your own over-sized trophy, just message me.
