Jackie Chan is a freedom-hating Communist!

Yet another item to add to the mountain of evidence that indicates movie stars and politics don't mix.

    Chan's remarks 'out of context'

Hong Kong action star Jackie Chan's comments about whether freedom was a good thing for China were taken out of context, his spokesman has said.

He was criticised after suggesting to a business forum in southern China that Chinese people "need to be controlled".

But his spokesman said Chan was talking about freedom in the entertainment industry, not Chinese society at large.

People with "ulterior motives" had misinterpreted what he was saying on purpose, Solon So told AP news agency.

Chan said on Saturday: "I'm not sure if it's good to have freedom or not. I'm gradually beginning to feel that we Chinese need to be controlled."

He also said freedoms enjoyed in Hong Kong and Taiwan made those societies "chaotic".

"If we [the Chinese] are not controlled, we'll just do what we want."
His spokesman responded as the backlash against Chan grew.

The tourism board for Hong Kong said it had received complaints that his comments "hurt the image of Hong Kong and aren't reflective of Hong Kong people".

Earlier, pro-democracy legislator Leung Kwok-hung told AP that Chan had "insulted the Chinese people".

I think I'm the only one who feels bad for the guy. He produces films. And nothing gets distributed in mainland China without first getting approval from a totalitarian police state that sends tanks to student demonstrations. Of course he's going to try to straddle the fence. This phony outrage is so ridiculous, though.

With that being said please enjoy a clip from Drunken Master

Socialism refers to a broad set of economic theories of social organization advocating public or state ownership and administration of the means of production and distribution of goods, and a society characterized by economic equality for all individuals, with an egalitarian method of compensation.

Jackie Chans comments were authoritarian, not communist.

Western European social critics, including Robert Owen, Charles Fourier, Pierre-Joseph Proudhon, Louis Blanc, Charles Hall and Saint-Simon, were the first modern socialists who criticised the excessive poverty and inequality of the Industrial Revolution. They advocated reform via the egalitarian distribution of wealth and the transformation of society to small communities without private property. Saint-Simon delineated collectivist principles to reorganize society and build socialism upon planned, utopian communities.
Although Socialism encourages pluralism and interdependence, it does by no means promulgate control.

I agree In the Soviet Union, under Stalin, the people were controlled using violence and fear, the same can be said for North Korea and to a lesser extent Cuba.

Although the Russian revolution was a genuine Socialist / Communist revolution, it quickly fell to an authoritarian dictatorship, and could not be called socialist.

Sorry about the serious post, please do not say Communists hate freedom.
