I know that this is my first post on this board so I should probably take it easy, but as I actually live and study Wing Chun in Guangzhou, Mainland China and have studied with actual lifelong Foshan masters, please allow me to say that there is not a one of you that actually knows what the hell you are talking about. My holy God is this site appropriately named.
WC is never practiced at full speed because at full speed it kills and cripples people. It is not practiced in Mainland China or Hong Kong (2 very different and distinct styles of WC) the way it is practiced in the west. In the west it is often taught as a way to fight in retreat or as a means of self defense. Here it is taught as an aggressive way to brutally beat the crap out of anyone that would f**k with you. WC is filled with throat and temple strikes and elbow and wrist breaks. WC is not MMA or UFC and cannot be used in the ring. It is why they don't hold full contact tournaments here. True practitioners would kill each other.
It was originally taught to western people that were, in effect, invaders and profiteer colonialists. Why would you teach your overlords how to hurt and kill your family, friends and countrymen. Bruce Lee, who brought WC to the west, was an American. He was trained as such. He openly stated this. Once he got rich and famous he was accepted as Chinese and trained as one. It is well known that he died before ever being able to pass that training on to others.
In the school the Sifu is father. The other students your brothers and sisters. Would you want to kill or cripple your own brother, or even hurt him. You people not only know nothing of WC, you know nothing of Chinese Kung Fu philosophy, ideals or honor. WC is practiced the way it is because we are family.
When I hear or read about "real, practical fighting application" I know for sure that I am listening to someone egotistical that really does not know anything. It is certain that anyone claiming WC is not a practical means of fighting, knows nothing about Wing Chun.
