Seminars are just as useful as books and videos.
you dont "learn" anything, you just get some idea of what to do.

boxing isnt jab/cross/hook/uppercut, any dickbutt can do that, to be a boxer you need to practice a lot, be conditioned, weave and bob, have the mental game and properly able to set up big moves, and after drilling and sparring so much that the moves become a habit and you counter effectively by reflex ONLY THEN you can call yourself a full fledged boxer.

GTFO with your "i knowz som jew-justu" after a seminar. If you cant atleat use it effectively under heavy pressure and know how to set it up and finish it off painfully, you dont know that move as far as i am concerned.

        Thanks,

Those TKD kicks he threw were little more than crowd-pleasers. He won that fight with his skill in grappling and boxing. Maybe his ATA training helped him to develop balance, coordination, etc which in turn helped him when he began MMA training, but I don't see how his ATA training directly helped him win that fight.

Wow ... I'd like to see that. Got a link by any chance?

No, you learned grappling. What rank are these BJJers teaching you? Or, as was discussed in another thread, did they do an intensive seminar and suddenly they are grapplers? What I noticed, from the website, they now do Grappling levels (KRAV anyone?) Level I Level II Level III.

you guys seem to be extremists..anyways, my point has been said.
          Pot meet kettle.

If hating stupidity is wrong, why does it feel so right?

There it is. The famous "started a thread...no one agreed with me...I'm right, your wrong...I win this argument...I'm leaving..."

              Good riddance.

No you don't understand his point. See, you enter the cage your entire art/organization/style is supposed to get instant respect.

                    MMAers and BJJers please comment.
The ne-waza is "meh." It seems like the coach's only instruction is "Just get the underhooks! The rest takes care of itself..."

The double-leg at about :57 in is awful. Of course it's easy to sprawl if your opponent tries a morote gari from the other side of the room and comes in horizontally, putting himself at risk for either a nasty guillotine counter or a nasty back injury.

Because I do Judo I don't find the concept of "bowing out" particularly offensive.

I'd like to take this opportunity to point out that the way I remember to do a double-leg correctly is to recall the "Golden Rod" concept I learned from CMA.

And there I thought this is my easy way to my TKD BB. Guess I will never have one then.

As a matter of fact, I do.

                          http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=[yt]Ryo9_eHF1qw

The way I see it, just because someone does TKD, and they succeed in MMA, does not mean that their TKD is what made them succeed. It might've had an influence on it - perhaps large, perhaps small - but in the end, it's their MMA training that comes to bear in MMA, just like it's their TKD training that comes to bear in TKD.
We really need to get past the "Style X in MMA" notion from the the early UFCs/the movie Bloodsport. I do performance wushu, and I do MMA; I even throw distinctively wushu kicks during MMA sometimes. That doesn't mean my MMA "style" is wushu. Especially considering that none of those wushu kicks were the cause of my success, just like homeboy's TKD kicks weren't the cause of his success in that match.

It's ridiculously low percentage move that only one human being has ever used successfully in a professional match. And he broke his opponent's goddamn arm with it.
It's like seperating someone's ribs with a spearhand, or some similarly esoteric traditional technique; shit like that seems like it shouldn't happen in the real world.

Oh McClaw, Waki Gatame is not low percentage.

See, i thought it was. I thought, "oh wow, thats a silly gimmicky type move...Surely it'd never work"

Out to sushi, with my Uncle, mom and Dad and what not, i ask my Uncle, "Hey, whats the deal with Waki Gatame? It doesn't seem very secure at all"

Can you guess what happened next? I got Waki motherfucking Gatame'd, and let me tell you, there was no escape. None. At. All.

Apparently you have to clamp your elbow, hell if i know, it just hurt.
