What is with the Judo nuthuggery on this site?

I would assume that the emphasis on judo over boxing is to offset the default anti-grappling bigotry that exists in uninformed/misinformed people (that is, most people, including myself not too long ago).

Have you ever seen The Ladies' Man movie? If so, you know what I mean.

Edit: Also, many years ago, my mother asked me if I wanted to do kickboxing. "Absolutely", I replied. I wound up signing up for it, along with one of my football buddies and his twin brother.

It wasn't kickboxing. It was boxercise. We were the only three males in the class. I was too young to appreciate this.

This sort of thing doesn't happen with judo.

Don't look at me. I refer all newbies to the nearest Oom Yung Doe dojo.

Judo, believe it or not, has the real deadly.

Seriously, what two things can one human being do to another that can result in death the first time?

Droppin' people on their heads, and choking them.

Ju-don't know what you're talking about. I recommend boxing but most people still want to wear the pajamas and do the belt and bow thing.

What is actually happening is that everyone here is a Teddy Roosevelt fan; he did judo. Thus, ergo and therefore and soforth, people love judo.

I've seen this site accused of nuthuggery regarding judo, muay thai, BJJ, kyokushin, san da, san shou, san diego, san jose, and you're an idiot.

(EDIT: and if you want this site to advise other activities, speak up on those newbietown threads. duhhh)

Post five thread/post references or STFU. Because the judo recommendations I see are "BJJ is too expensive, I hate JJJ, guhhhh point out the obvious for me" or "I'm new, I don't want to get hit, tell me a MA to do" or "I've been doing point sparring forever, what do I do now that I realize that clinch happens" or "my wife/gf/domme wants to get some S-D skizills but is intimidated, how do thinking for myself?"

If there's a better answer than "judo" to all of those, my name is Mickey Mouse and Phrost should change my username accordingly.

Jebus krispy kreme, ripping on judo is like being goth these days: not counterculture, but looks close enough to be emo about it.

I sometimes wonder if the Judo 'bias' isn't really a BJJ bias in disguise. I can imagine the referrer thinking "Well I'm pretty sure they don't have BJJ in Kenosha, WI, and I sure do wish I had some Judo training under my belt before I started BJJ, so I'm going to recommend Judo to this noob. Then when he finally does come around to BJJ he'll thank me."

It's not wrong, it's just wierd. Giving everyone the exact advice like that. If Savate was the cheapest and most prevalent martial art in the US would we be recommeding that over Judo? Somehow I doubt it.

While I've certainly seen Judo nuthuggery, there's also plenty of nuthugging for boxing, Muay Thai, BJJ and Kyokushin. I don't agree that the Judo nuthuggers (of which I'm arguably one) are any more numerous that the other kinds.

I used this exact throw in sparring the other day. It's my favorite.

                            Well, my thoughts are these:

                            1. Yes, you can find cheap boxing. If you are young and in great shape, you should do that if you enjoy it. However, if you are older, trying to get back into shape, it's not such a great idea.

                            2. There are far fewer BS Judo people in the MA world. So few, that its a fairly safe recommend. You are not going to get 8 year old black belts, or all the other McDojo stuff.

                            3. It is cheap, so much so that you can try it so see if you like it and go from there.

It is a cheap and effective base, to begin your training with. Where you go from there is up to you.
