Feck you and your Crusty Gi!

Hands up people who turn up to training with crusty yellow/green/black growths on their gi?

    Why must you do this?

I was the noob at a dojo on the weekend and had no choice but to accept working with a BB with fucking yellow crust on his gi lapel. I nearly threw up. In fact I'm gagging from the memory. I was worried about catching something from the open cuts/mat burn on my hands/face etc.

At Renzo's you get send home, it says so in their dojo rules and I have Zed seen doing it.

At my old club we had a guy who just throw is stinky gi in the bag and pulled it out like it was the next time I refused to train with him and also told the trainer, he was forced to throw away the old gi, buy a new one and it never been a problem ever since.

Sometimes people are just so stupid/ignorant they don't even notice. So tell him and don't train with him, period!

I'll give you a hint, he used the word "wank."

I used to take TKD with a guy who smelled so bad the head instructor took his Gi home and washed it for him.
I refused to ever pair up with him. I shouldnt have to put up with poor hygiene. EVER.

Just refuse to train with him, normally in the clubcode there is a reference to personal hygiene.
I refuse to train with somebody with a lack in personal hygiene.
If somebody trains several times a week (and especially in arts where gi's get grabbed) they need several gi's.

And I keep that standard in the rest of my life, once I refused to shake the hand of a new supirior engineer at my work.
I saw him the first time in the bathroom of the company where I was washing my hands, he left a cubicle and the restroom without washing his hands.
10 minutes later he was introduced at my desk as the new collegue, I refused to shake his hand, he got mad in front of the rest of my collegues and so I told him why I didn't wanted to shake his hand, in front of the collegues. Never saw some-one turn red that fast.

There's this guy in my gym, his gi smells like a pet store. And his gi is yellow.

It's terrible when noobs do this.

It's even more mindboggling when a black belt does this.

I have 3 Gis and I wash them after every practice. I thought this was normal?

I only own one but I don't bring it if I haven't washed it first. The only problem so far is that there's this collection of dirt or something around the knees that will not come off, and I'll be damned if I bleach the thing.

Ever since I started I always washed my gis directly after use. For a while though, despite this rigorous laundry ritual (and the fact that I own 4 gis, soon to be 5), my gis would really start to smell powerfully after I'd work up a sweat. It was noticeable even to me.

Then my instructor told me about how colored gis (I own no white) always develop a funk because you can't bleach them. If I wanted to fix the smell, I should wash them with color safe bleach.

I do this now, and have the most pleasant scented gis in the dojo.

                              </gay laundry story>
