    "Street Fighters"

I've seen the whole 'Street Fighter' idea coming up far too often (read: once in a necroed thread by a newb) these days and this shit needs to be finally stomped out once and for all. They are the mysterious beings that despite having no training other than sparring maybe an hour a week can:

Easily take apart pathetic boxers and their silly ducking and weaving

Destroy your pathetic karate with your movement specific blocks, because YOU CAN NEVER PREDICT EXACTLY 'HOW' THEY CAN ATTACK.

Always have at least 100 mates at their back who will always join in to beat you up instead of just watch the fight

Easily defeat your ring sport based grappling

If they have a knife they will kill you instantly. You may have tried knife fighting with alive trained FMA's for your entire life, but they will still kill you with the greatest of ease.

Their specific techniques are never mentioned. It is not boxing as that is silly and only developed for a controlled environment and it involves no takedowns as they're just too slow. Groundwork? Fuck off.

This thread doesn't really have a point. BUT, I would be very gratefull if, someone who thinks that streetfighters are anything other than either trained dudes out and about or just idiots with better than normal reflexes could explain a little about them. Specifically, what their techs are and how they get so good with so little practice.

As you can see from the video below, the most dangerous tech of the street right is the hadooken. When a time you might go for a flying spinning kick to follow up a leg sweep and the street fighter will shoot you down with one firey blast. The best way to prevent this is with the ever effective x-block. In fact, use x-block to counter every move of the street fighter.YouTube - Street fighter 2

OP, I am no fan of streetfighting as a viable way to develop and test a martial art but I think you have created a straw man. "Street fighter" proponents' arguments are not always as simplistic as you have stated.

No, but they are usually more simplistic than the person making the street fighter argument realizes.

Today I heard a new d3@D!y sTr33t f!g#t3R angle. We are talking about TUF Finale and fighters during a break and KIMBO comes up. One guy talks how Kimbo is a REAL fighter and I pointed out that he lost to Gannon a REAL fighter. He says MMA and other "trained" guys are FAKE fighters!?!?! I was shocked then LMAO. We talked some more and he felt I couldn't take him and I asked why he said because I was trained out to fight and thats different for real fighting!?!?!?!?!? We didn't have time to for him to elaborate but I am waiting for it come up again tomorrow.

You know I encounter people like this a lot at my work. However none have been as ignorant as this person you have just spoken about.

I bet he's a regular poster on YouTube.

It didn't seem he was going that route, suprisingly. It seemed like he was saying that REAL learned to fight naturally on their own and the FAKE ones had to be trained to fight. But like I said we didn't get to go into it too much before heading back to DBP (Death By PowerPoint).

Nutriders like to think that what they do is the best. Karatekas think they can crush any opponents with reverse punches and shutos. BJJers think they can take down anyone and get a choke or lock. Escrimadores think that they can stop anyone with blades and bludgeons. People who don't seriously train think they can beat anyone with streetfighting.

True. but there is some truth in what they say. They usually wrap up a little truth and use it to justify their BS (logic police: what is this fallacy called?)

I would love to live in a world where I could learn the deadly street arts and then be ready for anything. I trained a lot in my twenties and if I could store up some deadly techniques and pull them out now when needed, it would make up for my much lower current state of fitness and the fact that I was never a "badass"..

Oh well. Fortunately, hordes of street gangsters, homeless men, muggers, press gangs, ninja, pirates, terrorists, cannibals, head hunters and other assorted crazed lunatics are not after me on a regular basis.

I organize self appointed street fighters into these categories...

                            1) high school brawler
                            2) dude who got mugged and lived to tell the tale
                            3) dude in a "fight club"
                            4) men who get into an occasional drunken scuffles
                            5) angry guy who picks fights

since I've known a couple of people from each of these categories, might as well say why they wouldn't fare so well against a well trained martial artist.

                            1) has only fought other kids, no chance against a trained fighter 100 pound grade 9 does not equal 220 mma pro.
                            2) fighting off one crack addicted guy out for your wallet does not make you t3h d3adly, it means you can defeat a hungry man with poor motor skills
                            3) Lets not go there...I think we all know why fight club posers suck
                            4) they can brawl, but so can any pro fighter. The difference, pro fighters have more experience and technique .
                            5) haymakers, and raised chins.

Where I'm from, streetfighting technique is either a sucker-punch or head-butt followed by some wild arm flailing and then a stomping.

Some of the more experienced streetfighters will replace wild arm flailing with the Hockey/Rugby fight tactic of a collar grab and a repeated right hand.

A streetfighter who is losing will usually try to clinch, maybe even tackle, but doesn't know what to do once he gets there.

Weapons and buddies make things a little more complicated, but my dinner just got put on the table.
