    Aikidoka alone in the wild

Here's my newbie introduction- rather than do it the regular way I thought I'd jump into the deep end of the pool.

I'm an ex- Tae Kwon Do, Yoshukai and Goju Ryu Karate, Shao Lama Kung Fu practitioner who'se spent the last four plus years learning Aikido techniques at a Yoshinkan dojo. It's the closest thing to Jujutsu I can find locally. I plan to do some grappling training, mainly takedown defense and escapes, this summer.

I've been active on Aikiweb since 2004 but the Internal Energy pontiffs are driving me crazy so here I am. My stated belief is that power comes from perfect technique and nothing else, which is driving all the Jedi Knights there crazy, too.

So physical strength doesn't enter into your "power comes from perfect technique and nothing else" argument, eh (it was the "nothing else" part that clued me in)?

I'd be forced to disagree with you.

You do realize that in order properly learn takedown defense and escapes you're going to have to learn the takedowns and groundwork too right?

        Bill.

Welcome to Bullshido, hope you have a thick skin. You're going to need it.

Why have you studied so many arts and to what level did you acheive in each of them?

I'm glad to see that you admit that Aikido is not grappling training.

Some describe aikido as "stand-up grappling" - I laugh out loud

              Welcome Bill.

Yes, some of those chikung guys are obnoxious, however, Darth Shioda thinks you're wrong about your "perfect technique and nothing else thing.

How do you define power? And why does only technique come into its equation?
Chaos? Panic?... Disorder??.........................My work here is done.

Dude, look at it this way, at least he isn't all up on chi's dick.

That is, perhaps, a feat in and of itself.

I grappled an Aikido guy at a get together at a buddies house last night. I'm not sure of how long he had been training, people BS about that all the time, but it was fun! He went all spaz on me, it was glorious. I arm dragged him, took his back, took him down and t-bag keylocked him. He tried to pass it off that he was drunk, but 3 beers does not a drunk make. I didnt argue, it was pointless. I think he tried to wristlock me while I was on top in north south position... It didnt work very well.

Old school Japanese talk of someone's technique as "strong" they're rarely (if ever) meaning strength or power. However; "perfect technique" is very hard to define.

Almost all aikido is taught based upon one encounter and one response, the concept being ichi go ichi ei - as a concept that's perfectly fine but the reality is far from exacting. Then we have the extortionate amounts of co-operation existing in today's aikido and finally little or no pressure testing. I find it hard therefore to capitchulate to a "perfect technique" theory.

in regards to t-bag key lock, i had it done to me by a 210 pound kid in my 1st tournametn.

i don't know why i was fighting a 210 pound kid, being 140 at the time, but whatever.

                        Still sucked.

How the hell do you get teabag (it's not t-bag) keylocked? You arm would be under your head. I don't see how that's even possible.
