Hi. You are reading an archive of the legendary Bullshido forums, from 2002-2020. Please visit our NEW and (arguably) improved forums at https://forums.bullshido.net.
(Or don't, this is just an announcement and nobody's holding a gun to your head.)
Right, along with 'Kung Fu' magazine. I doubt that just because some people have a love/hate relationship with the mag that the majority of subscribers do. However CMA without the BS isn't the easiest thing to find in the world you know.
New thread? It has nothing to do with the quality of a shitty magazine.
BB now gives NHB awards so, they don't fit into your over generalization.
In Karate-Do:My Way of Life, Gichin Funakoshi wrote that an important karate figure named Bushi Matsumura once immobilized a challenger "by the intangible force that flashed from his eyes"
Ideally there would be a publication that did their homework and wasn't filled with bullshido, but touched on everything from full contact tournies to old martial arts history.
Has the occasional miss, but is generally very good.
The Journal of Asian Martial Arts publishes three types of materials: (1) scholarly articles based on primary research in recognized scholarly disciplines, e.g., cultural anthropology, comparative religions, psychology, film theory, and criticism, etc.; (2) more informal, but nevertheless substantial interviews (with scholars, master practitioners, etc.) and reports on particular genres, techniques, etc.; and (3) reviews of books and audiovisual materials on the martial arts. These three types of materials are organized in separate sections of the journal. In order to ensure the quality of all submissions in terms of scholarship as well as writing, each submission will be reviewed by at least two members of our editorial board. We look forward to making the journal accessible to all readers while establishing and maintaining a high quality of scholarship, writing, and graphics.
OldDog, does it say anywhere in the article that Thomas is a Dillman student or has been thoroughly indoctrinated by George Dillman and the "Dillman Method" for over a decade now?
It says in the little bio at the end of the article...
About the Author:
Chris Thomas has written for Black Belt for more than 25 years. He's co-written a number of books on pressure-point fighting with Black Belt Hall of Fame member George Dillman. For more information about them, visit www.blackbeltmag.com/archives/who/
I already knew he helped Dillweed write his shitty books. Thats what I found funny about the author. He has a biased opinion.
Myself and oldman34 ridicule BB Mag, considering our styles, we are part of the target audience.
I still subscribe. Actually I ask for it for Christmas every year from my sister-in-law. Its full of lulz and sometimes useful info.
Yes, we are the target audience. Its sad that for every one of me/you, there are 10 people who believe this crap. I teach a lot of them TKD.
