P.S. I'm sure you all saw the Star Trek next generation ep. "Code of Honor" with the "Aikido 1" holodeck training-program program, taught by a holographic sensei?

That's right: apparently now they learn Aikido in Starfleet.

No. But I do remember the Klingon Tai Chi (which I found to be an extremely unlikely candidate as a model for a Klingon Martial Art) and the blind pugil stick martial art Riker practiced. This is on topic because both instances did affect my suspension of disbelief in a way similar to the OP encountering such highly effective Aikido in the Dresden Files.

Pfft! Never saw that one! I will have to look that up. There is the occasional aikido technique and/or reference in the USA show Burn Notice, as the main actor trains in aikido, as well as BJJ.

Not always. DeLucia did manage to beat Masa Funaki while Funaki was just trying to "carry" him. With a win like that after just training grappling for a few months, I don't blame him for believing in magic.

So anyway, what are these Dresden Files books everyone's talking about? Is Harry Dresden like Harry Potter? Is the Aikido chick Hermione?

SM Stirling's Emberverse series: Pretty decent Western swordplay and armed combat.

In fact, it wasn't until near the end of the third book there was a mention of the word "dojo" as a point of comparison, and Japanese fencing wasn't referenced until the fourth book. And hand-to-hand fighting, when it occurs, usually has "combatives" as a reference point, not any Asian system.

Quoted for truth. I remember that Internet arguement where he took credit for Frank Shamrock's win over Basito because he sent some kind of yakuza hoodoo to Rutten's hotel room...and Bas came on there and confirmed that he did get some kind of Shinto devilry shipped to his hotel room, though he claimed it was before his fight with Jason and that the sheer Bas Rutteness of Bas Rutten meant the evil sorcery helped Delucia not at all.

I still have to finish Dances with Dragons, then my wife is bugging me to read World War Z so we can talk about it.

Do yourself a favor & pick up a John Rain novel & a Jack Reacher novel when you're done. You'll thank me.
