Are "U" ready for the next Bullshido throwdown? (bring Kingdom Hearts AMVs)
How about letting the people going to the TD make that determination?
I'd go one step further and challenge you to stop the people going to the TD from making that decision. Are you going to tell them they're not good enough to participate? Are you going to tell them they should get the hell out, find a school to train at, and come back when they're good enough?
Has anyone reached that level of douchebaginess?
Who the fuck cares if some no name, unimportant, and frankly a giant douche of person on an internet forum thinks you're worthy or not to be at a throwdown? Regardless of what tag they have or what style they practice. People can go wherever they want, and do whatever they want. This "official" or "unofficial" bullshit is just that.
Most of the BJJers on here do actual competition. So they may not be at the throwdown, but its not like they never do anything.
I think most people would like to get some feedback on their performance from those that do know what they're talking about. It's the delivery that's at issue.
I think there is no problem with throwdowns having multiple aims. Socialising/fun, Training/learning, bullshido busting. And I feel that is accurately represented in the site itself. We have alot of fun threads, techniques and question threads and bullshido busing threads. The site is dynamic and is whatever the mob decides it is, regardless of mission statements.
It appears that it's never been a settled issue as to what a throwdown should, or shouldn't be and that it's up to the participants to make that decision.
I declare throwdowns to be beer drinking contests. Everyone must obey.
Well, after I showed up two hours late and only did three one-minute rounds of escrima, I drank till 10 the next morning, so does that count for something?
Having attended the Norcal TD, I would admit that I could have stepped up the intensity and got more from it. Next time. I did, however, have a great time and met cool people.
I for one wouldn't have showed up at the first austin throwdown i was invited too if it was known beforehand that we would be doing full-contact, full-intensity sparring, I probably wouldn't have shown. I simply have no desire to go full out with people I don't know and trust unless it's a tournament enviroment where someone else I know and trust is in charge of my saftey.
I got my knee jacked up and my elbow hyperextended pretty badly at the first throwdown, and that's with people that weren't complete assholes.
Also, and don't take this the wrong way hedge, because you've been pretty cool so far
1) You've almost injured me and my friend pretty badly rolling, and that's WITHOUT you being aggre about stuff, and someone's ankle got jacked. You can see why I might not want to do any full-intensity rolling
2) Your instructions when my friends were like "let's come away with one skill we didn't have before" was kinda dick. Alan who was being taught shrimping by JNP and zap was listening and they were doing a pretty good job getting it across. Marcos(the mexi-dude) was having trouble understanding the movement, so alan tried to think of something analagous that marcos already knew how to do. Now, regardless of how off alan's attempt at analogy was, do you honestly think treating him like some "Zomg we have groundfighting hidden in the formz!" dude was going to be helpful, particularly in comparison to "well, it's actuallly different like x". My motivation for going to the throwdowns is to get my friends able to roll and spar together and hopefully learn something, not to be my personal ego-boost. Which is not to say that as I get to know people better we shouldn't spar harder and harder. I would just rather not that people I know outside of fighting decide not to crosstrain because the first BJJ guys they meet are assholes to them.
Which is not to say I have a problem with you, hedge, just that I think forcing the throwdowns in that direction might make them not jibe with my reasons for going.
