I'm still not understanding why Hedgehogey and Boyd are having a Siamese brain spasm over this whole throwdown issue. So some of the people who show up are bad. So what? I've seen worse at grappling tournaments around here.
Ex:
Tournament organizer: Have you ever trained grappling?
Entrant: Well, my sensei had a judo guy come by our school once and we learned to do an armbar..
Tournament organizer; I see....do you have $45?
Entrant: Umm, yeah.
Tournament organizer: Awesome, you are in the white belt bracket, on those mats over there.

I'm confused as to what hedge wants us to do about this.
-No grappling matches between absolute begginers or people who can't grapple at all
-Display a reasonable level of competence. I'll be fair and average out my judgement so whole groups aren't taking flack for one pizdoff.
-spar with some intensity. I'm not expecting full contact pride rules but you should go 70% at least once per TD
-be funnier. T3H R34L jokes sound even more brain damaged in audio than in text
-if awful things are happening and you actually are good enough to be correcting the people involved, do so. Stop them if you must.
-stop acting like throwdowns are the litmus test of fighting ability. They aren't.
-I don't discourage people who do awful martial arts to not show up, quite the opposite, i'm just discouraging them from sparring with other awful stylists then giving each other creamy handjobs over how functional their Aikido/Wing Chun Mixed Martial Combat blends are. In fact, in the case of chunners, ninjas, and the like, all the blue belts and above and/or people with good amatuer thai boxing records should line up and take turns absolutely humiliating them.

I would also like to say that the exchange in my first post led to the most hilarious event I have ever seen, one that causes me to break into giggles at my computer just thinking about it. The previously mentioned karateka was paired up with a Hapkidoist (Hapkidoer? Hapkidoka?) in his first match, and the two engaged in the most incredible display of...I'm not sure what it was, but it couldn't have been wrestling or tachi-waza. Sadly, after two minutes of this incredible whatever it was supposed to be, the referee stopped the match and RESTARTED THEM ON THEIR KNEES.
