Ease up there, Q. Most of us who have met Hedge, like the guy because we understand what he is saying. Text doesn't get across subtext very well. Hedge is a nice guy although he has had some outbursts that may come across in a less than cool way.

The main thing is, he has legitimate skills in his art, and he wants the site to be a legitimate source of critique. However, when the litmus test for the site's credibility seems substandard due to poor performance at these by members of staff or "experts" in their field, it makes the whole site look worse.

We can have dozens of good experiences but those are easily forgotten in light of one bad one. Hedge would rather someone's feelings get hurt and they seek out competent instruction in a stress tested art than to have them show up to a throwdown and be coddled and miss the entire assumed point.

Does Hedge's zeal for the BJJihad come across as jackassery? Sometimes. Is it motivated by pure motives? You better believe it.

I am by no means an expert in the arts I have studied. I just enjoy it and am actively seeking to improve. Throwdowns give me a chance to test myself against people I don't often get to spar with and that allows me to gauge my skills more effectively because I don't know what game they play, I just know I need to figure it out quickly and have a better answer for it. It also exposes every weakness. All in all, throwdowns are friendly gatherings but the pressure must be there.

I know when I roll with jnp or Zapruder they aren't going 100% with me because they know within a minute how good I am. They give me more than I know how to deal with to stress me, to show me that weakness. Instead of tearing a my acl with a heelhook or popping my elbow with an explosive armbar they get a sub and apply it enough to let me know how bad a place I am in. This lets me know that in my gym, I need to roll with these things in mind.

So don't assume the ATX crew is advocating Thunderdome, just an honest self-assessment under the harsh light of stress.

I don't have a problem with criticism, and I appreciate it when I get it.

What I objected to was that I think your comments will be lost on the people it was directed towards. I think they will just blow it off and ignore what you are trying to say. It's too bad, but it's human nature to look at the delivery of a message as much as the content, and in this case probably more than the content. I know you guys are trying to do something good here, but I doubt it is getting through to your intended audience in this case.

I gave Awakenedstream the names of a couple gyms that I am familiar with that train MT/BJJ/MMA near where he will be going to college, and he has visited one of them already. I had talked with him about this subject at the last TD, so I knew he was looking to cross-train. He is a Wing Chun instructor at the school where the TD was held, and has a lot more influence than I or anyone else here does over many of the people who attended that TD. Several of them train with him, and I think several are not even Bullshido members. So I thought the best way to reach them would be to help Awakenedstream find a good gym to train at. He seems sincere in trying to do that. I didn't see any point in ridiculing him for his past martial arts training.

Am I doing the right thing here? Or do you guys want me, an inexperienced Muay Thai student with almost no grappling experience, to rip into their striking and grappling abilities? I'm basically as inexperienced at fighting as some of them are. The only difference being that I am trying to do something about it with my training.
