    vexed and furious

If this is the wrong place for this sorry, please move it, but i must vent my spleen.
Any TKD (good tkd schools, and teachers will be as disgusted by this as me) guys on here, sorry for this post but TKD is trying to fuck with my town, and shit TKD at that.

A new TKD club will be opening in this small town of mine (15,000 pop) very soon, one of a very large chain, and get this they offer 45 minuite sessions twice a week, and say anybody walking through their doors can become a blackbelt within fourteen months,

Thats right, you read correct, fourteen months and anybody, its called in there info site the road to leadership.
ie you can walk in, turn up for fourteen months and then train others.

If i wasnt such a souless bastard i could weep for the hapless suckers who will wind up at that place, knowing no better, and when they get to blackbelt, thinking they are competant and profficient to pass on that "wealth" of knowledge to others.

Im a TMA guy, and i know a lot of you guys dont rate us much, but let me tell you, it took me six and a half years with three and a half hours worth of lessons per week to get to blackbelt (about normal)at wado ryu, and i had to work very hard to get it, and the work has given it value.
Ive been doing wado ryu for just under ten years, i only got my second dan last year, and trust me i work and train like a mother fucker.

Thing is, my sensei will not even entertain the idea of grading anyone who is anything less than 100%.

I dont know how these TKD bastards will turn out, but every blackbelt at our club , knows the system backwards, can employ it with effortless ease, and more importantly, explain everything to the new white belts coming through the doors.
Can that level of knowledge and skill really be aquired in fourteen months with 90 mins of lessons per week ?

Can the flexability required for the powerfull and flashy kicks for which TKD is renowned truely be gained in fourteen months?

Its only my educated guess but id have to say hell no on both counts.

And now our brilliant club will have to compete with these sons of bitches, style over content merchants, for the young and new martial artists.
We have superb training and a thirty five year club history, and they have a marketing machine.

Im not anti other martial arts in the town, theres two other clubs (kickboxing and shotokan) in the town besides ours who we visit and train with, they are as appauled as we are by all this.

You wouldnt think there were people stupid enough to think this new TKD club was worth while, but this chain has spawned 25 clubs around the country in the last 5 years.

Short of beating the living shit out of the instructor, how do i get rid of this menace, id happily stab him through the heart and fuck the wound, but i suspect id get into a spot of bother for that.

Im after tactics i can use that wont get me locked up again, if theres any military, strategy minded sorts reading this, how do i bring these suckers down?

Soz for the length of the post, and the crappy grammar, cheers, big steve

          Yo, kingwado...

          Link to their site, please.

Also, where in England are you? I want to make sure there's no chance of us being infected. We have a bad case of Go Kan Ryu round here, and I'd hate to come out with TKD side-effects.

Clearly you need to Dojang storm them. Wait till they've got about 10 students then invade and beatdown the instructors in front of their new students. Video it and invite me to come so I can point and laugh.

                It's what Jesus would do.

But in all seriousness I think this is just going to get worse. In terms of TKD McDojos we are going to follow down the path are colonial cousins blazed in the US.

These guys? Right neck of the woods and look like they fit the bill.

Holy shit, you Wado Ryu guys are pretty tightly strung....LOL, I also love how 1st Degree Murder and Maliciously Raping the Corpse will get you in "a spot of bother" in jolly 'ole England.

Damn, that's funny shit right there.

I'm not sure how things work on the other side of the Atlantic, but over here, often there is a permitting process that a business will have to go through to be allowed to operate under local laws. The approval of the permit applications can be objected to, although 99% of the time they are not. The 1% are usually hot-item businesses like bars, liquor stores, strip clubs, night clubs, etc... If there is no process like this in your neck of the world then you are looking at grassroots type stuff like getting a petition together and presenting in to the governing body of your town at the next town meeting.

I doubt any of this would stop the opening of a TKD school. What you are left with is continuing to try and set a "good example" of "solid MA training" in your area. Host inter-school comps and routinely beat the other schools students at all levels of competition.

Your typical martial arts consumer is ignorant to what is good or bad training, educate them. Hold local seminars or demonstrations show-casing the good aspects of your school that hold it apart and above the other school, etc, etc.

...or, you can do your suggestion......but, unless you're just pissing around, you are completely off your trolley and I suspect you'll get in a spot of bother. Keep your pecker up and don't throw a wobbly you might drop a sprog. Suck it and see, mate, and if the place turns out to be fuck all bullocks, then market your school better and put the the other school on queer street.

TBH if they were just offereing up their classes as a bit of fun exercise and somewhere to stow your kids for 45 mins while you pop into Tescos it's not really a problem.

                        However they do offer:

                        "Self Defence Training

                        Joint Manipulation
                        Ground Fighting
                        Defensive Tactics
                        Spontaneous Knife Defence
                        Pressure Point Control Tactics
                        Class Sparring Techniques "

So that perhaps should be looked at.

Yes, its ok im only a stab through the heart sort of bloke if it will get a laugh although knowing the old bill as i do in this country they would probably treat you worse for speeding away from the crime than the actual crime, (im a peacefull sort really)

rule wise, they can set up club very easily, its mainly insurance and credential that matter, but i doubt most bureaucrats know good martial arts from bad.
Seeing as they are business minded, we have to attack them that way, if they dont turn a tidy profit, im sure they will look to greener pastures, i just regret we would be just passing on the problem in that event.

Most of there marketing seems to be aimed at parents useing the old "your kids will be disciplined, confident be able to piss cures for cancer and shit miracles" line.

When sensei set our club he only used word of mouth and a few notice boards. (mass media was yet to be invented, ie hes an old codger) so hes looking to the senior students to pitch in on this one, and its the least we can do.

I dont suppose theres a resource anywhere on how to best market your club, i reckon if we team up with the kick boxing and shotokan guys (id rather they got the students than these new buggers), but i think a collective effort will be the best strategy, the kick boxers seem game, shotokan not quite so, but im sure they will come around.

Under cut the competitor and advertise locally. For example, "Kingwado's Wado Ryu - FREE WEEK/MONTH of training and a free t-shirt upon signing up", "No Contracts!!!", etc, etc.

Get some gym space and sponsor a local tournament involving all the schools in the area. I would assume that the McDojo TKD school may not fair well and may even loose students when they see other schools taking home all the bling.

Get your school involved in community events separate from Martial Arts.
