BJJ gym teaching Wing Chun for mma

    Hey there.

A new BJJ/MMA gym opened up not far from me. The bjj is legit and taught by Marcio 'Mamazinho' Laudier. What is odd is that the stand up that they are teaching to complement people's BJJ is Wing Chun, with one boxing class a week.

    This is very odd.
    Thoughts?
I should note they say they will start teaching MMA classes when people get good at Gi Jiu jitsu. But can you teach mma if you have never competed in it? Only done Gi jiu jitsu?

What I'd like to know, is why you keep starting threads questioning the legitimacy of gyms based solely on the fact they include the _un in their curriculum. Yes, it's well established that _ing_un taught on its own, and with the minimal contact that characterizes most schools, is pretty piss poor. But there are a lot of gyms now who use it as a relatively small component of a full-range, hard-contact training package, which is fine. This appears to be one of them.
I really can't see any reason to call this gym into question. And you haven't even been there, so you can't shed any light on it. You appear to be jumping on the _ing_un sux bandwagon but adding nothing new to the mix. What's the fucking point?

That is two questions. The answer is yes you can coach/teach MMA if you have never competed in it. I give you Robert Follis the head coach of Team Quest:
      http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Team_Quest

The proof of a coach's effectiveness is not in his own ability but in that of his students.

Now go slag __ing __un somewhere else, you are not very good at it.

        ^^^ Yeah, what RunningDog said.

madhorsebjj, what the fuck man? What's your agenda? And why did you create this thread in MABS.

The MABS (Martial Arts BS, Fraud, Investigations, and Standards) section is not for a place for n00bs to say "te he, look what I found. what do you think?" You need to have a solid case (or at least enough evidence) to call BS or fraud on someone.

What is your case? What research have you done? Do you have an actual case for calling someone BS? Or are you trying to build your e-rep by making "LOL @ teh chun, hehe peniz!1"?

What makes you think posting a few lines followed by "thoughts?" is good enough to start a thread in MABS?

wrong place. I meant to say I think it is unwise to do traditional wing chun with the aim of training for mma

Do you know this for a fact?

Why do you assume it will be the BJJ instructors that will conduct the MMA class?

What'd stop the school owners from hiring a MMA fighter teach MMA? That's what many schools do.

Do you even fucking know what are the pre-requisites involved in creating a MMA class????

How do you know Mamazinho has only done gi jits?????

            Fucking spoiler to you man.

            Spoiler:

Mamazinho is a #!$@ 3rd degree Black Belt BJJer under Carlos Gracie Jr. What makes you think he's only capable of gi jits? What makes you think he's not qualified to teach or coach MMA fighter?

            Spoiler:
How much more fucking stupid can this thread get?

Also, why do you say this?

Who the fuck in the website says WC is being taught to compliment BJJ's training? I'm not saying whether such an idea is right or wrong, but that's NOT said anywhere in the website.

Where I last trained were giving separate classes in Aikido, Capo and Yoga. Certainly not to compliment the BJJ gi/no-gi and boxing classes. Why do you draw conclusions about the relationship between the chun classes and the BJJ classes?

You don't have anything solid to draw any conclusions on the subject at all!!!!

Also, what's wrong with a boxing class a day? This is pretty common. Most BJJ/MMA schools where I live give only one boxing class (stardard or MMA-oriented) a week. I doubt most BJJers/MMAers can take more than one that one boxing class a week on top of all the other training they do in BJJ and/or MMA.

There is really nothing fucking wrong with the school. The OP is just building strawmen to topple over with nunchucks made out red herrings tied together with a g-string.

And the fact that he even suggests a 3rd degree black belt BJJer has only do gi grappling illustrates the stupidity of it all.

            YMAS/Trollshido pleeze.

              Question 1: Why so?

Question 2: Where in the school's website it is said that the chun classes are being given to supplement mma training?

Also, this is bullshit revitionism of what you said.

That was not what you said in your original post, neither implicitly nor explicitily. This is what you said, among other things.

You said this, about a school run by a 3rd degree Black Belt BJJ practitioner. Everybody else, draw your own conclusions about this thread.

Go tell Rick Spain and his MMA fighters in Sydney that mixing wing chun and BJJ is "odd".
                  http://combatcentres.com/

                  _ing _un is generally suckage.

But WTF, dude? This school looks like a decent BJJ school with 5 days a week training available under a 3rd degree black belt, and striking training by a couple brothers, one doing wing chun and the other an amateur boxer.

So even if it isn't the absolute best around, it's probably a decent option. And if you don't like the striking training, just do grappling and train striking somewhere else.

Keep in mind that the OP has created multiple threads so far with a similar theme (hey guys, lookie here, the chun with bjj, what'cha think?). Multiple threads man. What the heck????

This dude is some sort of runaway process, spawning zombie processes until the OS crashes in flames.

The OP has managed to get me to post defending wing chunners. A whole new experience, and for that I thank him.
