No announcement yet.
Wing Chun? hard style. Wing Tsun? softer than Aikido. Flipside? practically limp.
Yes they do. If I am facing you and go for a punch to my kidneys, it would involve a badly positioned punch. If you think about boxers in a clinch. They tend to hit each other other in the ribs and kidneys, and whilst I know they have gloves on, these shots do not bring a person down. Whereas a direct strike to the neck can drop a guy. A punch to the face/nose can drop a guy. A punch to the solar plexus (forgive spelling) can drop a guy. A side punch to the kidneys might cause pain, but people will carry on fighting from there.
Right. Remember this?
Apparently not. Clinch range your centerline shit will not work. See what you do is try to fit fights into your delusion.
The same distance to knock someone out with a punch to the face is the same distance you can punch someone in the kidneys.
Your point was kidney punches are ineffective compared to all those other strikes you named.
Are you talking about a kick to the ribs? Are you taking the piss?
Any kind of strike there will hurt and might take you out of a fight, but my point was that if you offer a martial artist the choice between a kick to their opponents ribs or a free shot at their face, they will take the shot to the face. Unless they can't hit for shit.
Have a look at the guys in the UFC. How many times has someone been taken out by a hit to the ribs? Compare that to how many times they have been taken out from a strike to the face
Only if it is on the centerline otherwise, it is wasted energy.
A hook to the kidneys is wasted energy, but a CENTERLINE PUNCH while your opponent is sideways will kill him instantly in a splatter of guts

You sir are taking the piss.
Right, first off, you replied to my thread without quoting me, so how the fuck (you made me swear now) am I supposed to know what you were referring to.
Secondly, if you think a kidney shot from a clinch is as dangerous as a strike to the face then fair enough - carry on
The point (if you had read my comments) was that a strike from clinch to the kidneys is not in centreline and will not take an opponent out. If you have proof that it does, please post and I will retract.
A normal strike from an angle where the kidneys are in the centre line (ie if you are side on to an opponent) will obviously do a shit load of damage. Not just to the kidneys but everything around it as well
Great clip.
If you also count how many times he kicks a person and his opponent doesn't drop.
Then look at how many times the opponent drops after a strike to the face...
Did anyone say that if you don't hit the centreline you fail at striking?
I never mentioned that an armbar or hook was ineffective - quite the opposite. The point about using a centre line was that most of the major organs are down the centre line - brain, heart, stomach, etc and therefore if you hit them, you will
a)knock your opponent out
b)cause damage to the heart
c)wind someone
These effects will cause most people to drop instantly and the fight to be over
So that proves that..... Location of the strike matters? I'm pretty sure everyone here is ready to admit that a blow to the head is generally more effective than a blow to the body. If you're trying to somehow discount hooks via that video then you fail. Many many many knockouts are via hooks. The fact is that your internal organs are shielded by a lot of bone and muscle, over time you can damage them with strikes, or if you get lucky on location of impact. But the head is a far more vulnerable target. The flipside (pun intended) is that the head is smaller and more mobile and generally protected by the hands. So while a single strike to the head may be more effective, it is generally easier to land several strikes to the body.
This leads us to Combinations where both the head and body are attacked in sequence. Frequently with the legs as victims as well. By fighting intelligently one can create opportunities for effective strikes.
However, I have no idea WTF you are trying to say.

I never said kidney punches are ineffective.
I don't have to quote you every time, remember what you wrote. You were the only one saying that kidney punches aren't as dangerous as other strikes.
Now you are applying your version of a clinch to encompass the entire range. The clinch that allows you to knock someone out with a punch to the face, provides the same room to knock someone down with a kidney shot.

I can't speak for the poster of the video, but I agree with you on the hooks (I have mentioned hooks numerous times). Body combinations are good but are you really going to fight someone by picking off body shots? Especially on a big guy. I expect most people's hits on some of the bigger guys out there would just bounce off the body. But a strike going straight through to the neck, head, heart, solar plexus etc will more often than not end the fight quickly
