it should be a crime over here too.
its so unfair to people who actually risked their lives and limbs in combat.
this piece of shit walks around trying to get laid and hassling young girls.
he's a fucking coward because at two ocasions i squared of with him and asked him to leave otherwise i'd go mental on him, and he teared up started stottering and left really fast.
no special forces guy would do that.
i realise he's sick in the head but someone should look after this guy and check up on him on what he's doing.

i would be surprised if weren't a crime in holland. but, i am no experience with these laws myself. just heard about some guy doing that same thing here in the states, and he got busted. fox news, msnbc, and cnn would have transcripts or video of this story.

i've asked someone who is a mp.
he says: in dutch laws its a crime if you pretend to be someone/function which you are not when doing something or trying to motivate people according to the fake function.
so lets say, if i say im a lawyer and let you sign a contract i commit a crime, if i just walk around town telling people im a lawyer i cant be persecuted.

...It reminds me of some moron i know,
... You calling me a moron ? Fekin' charming !
..he's one of those pathological liars, claims to be a commando who done special ops in Egypt and the middle east etc.
Was out of the picture for months (probably mental asylum) seen him last week, heared him bragging to young girls how he was in the foreign legion now, he was here on a short leave...LOL!
          Yeah right.

The guy went as far as by buying an uniform and insignia and walking around town in it, even tattoos...
I had the guy checked out by some people i know who are/were actually commandos and it all turned out to be crap.

How do you as a genuine (ex) military guy feel about idiots like this?
..Well you said it.. they're morons of the highest order and always get found out in the end.
Does it piss you off or can you laugh about it?
Both.. but I laugh at them, not about what they say.

We all have some form of war story to tell, some more authentic than others however, the less authentic can be detected by those who have served and know the 'pack drill' of life in green socks.

I don't know particularly well how the US SF recruit their team members but here in the UK, the SAS and SBS are a very closed bunch of people and there isn't many of them in respect of the other regular forces thus, it is harder for people here to claim service in those specialist units.

I've met less than a handful of SAS during my service and none of them 'looked' particularly different to other 'squaddies' - indeed their mandate is NOT to look different. In terms of receiving training from these people, its just like any other training, just a little bit more in-depth (because of who and what they are themselves); my top rope and abseiling cadre was run by a SF NCO and he was one of the most down to earth blokes I've met, the guy run us around frekking ragged !

I don't remember the story too well, but it made national headlines.
The law is known as "Stolen Valor" and the chap you mention was actually a Vietman Vet but an enlisted man (poss NCO) but he was claiming to be a senior officer of the Marine Corp if my memory is correct and wearing medals, qualifications and awards not issued to him.

yes, i believe that story does sound correct. it wasn't too long ago, but it was one of those stories that only got a couple minutes of air time.

edit: sorry to derail this thread.

If you search around, there's a thread about a dude who pretended to be a Ranger (I think) and posted (on MAP) that he'd used his l33t ninjitsu in hand to hand and had killed in Afghanistan...
                Asia went to see him.
There's video of this little ninja nerd wondering if the immense black dude was going to eat him.
There's also my favourite moment... where the ninja (Ralph Hall?) claims to have been shot in the hip, but the scar has disappeared.
It got passed on to SOCNET (who are like military guys who really really really hate fakes and posers), but I'm not sure what happened, if anything, after that.
I think it's more of a crime if the subject poses as an officer, or at least I seem to remember it being mentioned.

Edit: Link to thread. You know. For fun.

                    There's more in the BBC...
                    And on MAP.
Except they took the funny stuff out of the MAP thread, in case it hurt anyone's feelings.
                    Fo' reals...

That is quite disrespectful and will catch you an assbeating too, running around in fake uniform and acting like military. I came home from AIT at christmastime in '97 to find a nobody wearing full BDUs with a cute little Airborne beret on his skull, just sitting on the "drag" in my hometown. Keep in mind, I'd been in no more than 7 months by this time, but I found it highly offensive and presented myself in quite plain, civilian clothes to tell him in no uncertain terms that he was risking an article 15 even standing there in BDUS, seeing as how he was in no way, shape, or form in a military role at the time. He wasn't even from my hometown, I think he was trolling girls. We argued and he took his gimpy little 6 cylinder mustang and went home.

I can only imagine what might have transpired had I even thought for a moment that he wasn't even in the military, but he looked on the up and up, merely not too smart. But we always said those Airborne guys were missing a few screws, especially the kiddies who went Airborne thinking it was a deadset guarantee they'd get Ranger next. Very funny, indeed, but I digress. Disrespectful, to the utmost, to represent yourself as military. I haven't looked at or even touched my military issue since I left; it's all in a closet in Texas, still in the duffle.
